🎬 watched Pass Thru (2016)
4th Breen movie, and we're back to DVD quality, because sure.
Probably the hardest to follow - despite having the least amount of abstract experimental content of all the post Double Down (2005) Breen movies - but I enjoyed it a lot more than Fateful Findings (2013). It's basically just I Am Here... Now (2009) again, but swap "god but alien but god" with "AI but actually Doctor Manhattan".

finally properly clicked for me what "lambdas capture their environment" means, as in "you can define things in-scope before the lambda is defined, and then those things will be captured in the lambda even after they've gone out of scope"
every example I tried to look at previously just ended up being like verbose syntax vomit
practical gdscript example:

🎬 watched Bad Manners (1984)
Insane person movie. Honestly feels not that far removed from a John Waters movie, but without the thematic undercurrents to steer it.
Delinquent kids in a prison-orphanage, complete with electric fences, solitary confinement, blood pacts and full blown nazi graffiti. Like, a lot of nazi graffiti - like every wall is covered in swastikas. These are the worst darn kids you've ever seen.

🎬 re-watched Wild at Heart (1990)
Didn't like it the first time, and I liked it slightly less on re-watch, as I knew the only merits are a couple fun scenes with Cage/Dern singing/dancing.
It's big issue is there's just no meat? It's entirely just random Wizard of Oz references, with a tiny bit of "reckless youth" thrown in, but mostly just a sequence of scenes with random under-cooked ideas strewn about. Lynch literary adaptations really are cursed.

:emacs: envrc.el has been great for running direnv when changing directories in emacs in order to add the packages in my nix-shell to path.
however I mostly navigate to projects with project.el, and I had to manually do M-x envrc-allow every time
reading up on how to improve this, with advice-add, I can automatically call envrc-allow after all the relevant functions

🎮 beat Parasite Eve (1998)
By the end I was a lot more mixed on this than I wanted to be.
I'd heard nothing but praise for the story and unique gameplay, but found both a bit disappointing.
Some neat ideas here and there in the story, but it's so disconnected to what you're doing moment-to-moment that it leaves the whole thing just feeling like you're walking from point A to point B and then an exposition dump happens.

It's okay. Might be my first German language film?
Wonderfully stylish and exciting cinematography, but all the different paths are way too similar and the eventual solution happens randomly and completely unrelated to anything the protagonist does, which is not what you want from a time loop script.

taking part in the autumn #LispGameJam
to manage scope, going at things with the very specific goal of "just trying things out" as an excuse to research the use case i've been pondering of an embeddable scheme to handle the rules & logic for a digital card game
there will (likely) not be an executable, just the start of a library with some test cases. would be playable from the REPL, but "playability" isn't the goal here - it's a pure learning experimentation project

🎬 watched Basket Case (1982)
Hell yeah. As weird little creature movies go, this is the good shit.
Some wonky pacing here-and-there, (especially towards the end), but great effects, great mood, and it's always a good time seeing the wee guy do his thing.
For some reason I see this billed as a horror/comedy, but there's no comedic elements whatsoever? It's a little goofy, sure, but genre-wise it's very straight horror.
Highly recommended.

interested in lisp, was looking around for lisp gamedev solutions, and if I'm honest was getting a little discouraged at what I was seeing (not lisps fault!)
then I stumbled on fennel (lisp -> lua), and I think this might be a solution worth exploring?

important milestone: levels can now be fully compiled from a .blend source with no manual intervention
by doing this in a seperate tool, it can be released under a copy-left license completely seperate from the game itself, so users can create custom levels using the same tools used to author official ones

really good!
critical but loving punk rollercoaster. kinda like Trainspotting except replace heroin with punk subculture. also both movies feature same director sequels that are sterile middle-aged immitations, from the looks of things
a movie i would highly reccomend that most would probably very understandably find way too annoying. requires an extremely high Mathew Lillard tollerance
