Like with Jolla's subscription model, I like this. It allows non-developers to put their foot down, and as this is an optional subscription, it feels less weird: you get all the updates if you don't pay, too.

Also, they are switching to a subscription model from August onwards, which, IMHO, makes sense if you want them to have resources to invest into SailfishOS.

@npub1zgk…x8cn There's defintely been some progress. On the Plasma Mobile side, IIRC some paid people left, and the Plasma 6 transformation has had developers focussed on it. Looking only at apps in https://invent.kde.org/plasma-mobile may lead to a wrong impression, as many sub-projects were convergent apps and have been moved to other parts of KDE after https://plasma-mobile.org/2022/11/30/plasma-mobile-gear-22-11/. Since https://fosstodon.org/@linmob/111437486318142093 is not entirely unpopular: If you are wondering if I recommend this setup: I'm torn. Two batteries make the PinePhone Pro more useful, and getting once one gets used to the keyboard, it's nice to type on.
If you have a PinePhone Pro that's sitting in a drawer, go for it - if not, there are lots of micro laptops out there that may be better by having things like a backlit keyboard, a pointing device, or a slightly bigger, not 2:1 screen.

With postmarketOS edge Sxmo I managed to get the (Alpine package) of Snapshot working on my PinePhone Pro. I've tried to get the flatpak of Decoder to work ( https://flathub.org/apps/com.belmoussaoui.Decoder ) ... but I fail at portal (or dbus?) setup
'Failed to read portal settings: GDBus.Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such interface "org.freedesktop.portal.Settings" on object at path /org/freedesktop/portal/desktop'
and can't seem to find helpful documentation.

@npub12df…y3nq Plasma Bigscreen comes to mind, and I think Jellyfin might also be worth a look. IIRC, there are also Skins for Kodi to make it feel more simple. (Not a TV person though, so ... really not my field of expertise.)

Recently, while on holidays, I exposed my beloved #banglejs2 to sea water, and while I managed to get it working again, the units of battery life are now days instead of weeks.
I have my old #PebbleTimeSteel around, which still works. But: You need an app to set the time. Thus, I embarked on a mission to bring #RockWork to #UbuntuTouch 20.04, found an attempt by someone else and did some more renaming ... it builds and launches, but rockworkd does not get started yet

Just upgraded my PinePhone's #postmarketOS install from 22.12 to 23.06. Went totally seemless, postmarketos-release-upgrade felt even more solid than the times before!

@npub16e3…e95m I totally get that (my interactions weren't to pleasant, either, but I am still sad it had to end this way. Graphene OS is a great product, if my Pixel 6 had not had overheating issues, I would likely be using it as a backup phone/to record videos (if I had the time).
The power balance feels a bit off here, in my book, Rossman is the bigger fish in this specific pond.

@npub1xz2…69v6 Looking at mainline-ish phones (out of store), the highest spec is the PinePhone Pro. But there are already the Snapdragon 845 phones (e.g. OnePlus 6(T)).
Regarding tablets, there's even less of a market, the highest end option should be the Juno tablet: https://junocomputers.com/us/product/juno-tablet/

Also: Which distribution do you want to run? (Some devices have excellent postmarketOS support, but are poorly supported in Ubuntu Touch (and vice versa)).
