@nprofile…60lz PH working hard on this building a concept and narrative around commercial determinants of health, while groups that cut their teeth fighting tobacco are now looking at obesity and Big Food. We'll line up the pieces, but it required government putting them in play.
As usual, while Westminster and Whitehall faff about, the localities, regions, and devolved govts will get on with the work

@npub1g0t…tvm4 I take her point about NHS funding but the two systems are not comparable.
Vets have a fraction of the (expensive) med tech of doctors.
If we euthanised ill/disabled people as nonchalantly as we do pets, it would save money but be a eugenicist nightmare. Pets who are 'too expensive' to treat are euthanised. A UK study found that over 20% of dogs euthanised were for 'old age'. No thanks.
But do let's fund the NHS. Just appreciate it costs way more & may never be so slick

@npub1g0t…tvm4 I'd wager it's a lot to do with how poor the 90% are. UK is an appallingly low wage to cost economy. £60k doesn't actually stretch that far into luxuries so much as ensure some stability and basic comforts like being able to heat and eat, run a car, have childcare, and a decent home -- also maybe a modest holiday, some meals out, some new clothes, haircuts etc.
This pretty average (for a rich country) lifestyle is beyond 90% of incomes! Well-off doesn't feel so well anymore

@npub1zdz…tl8u I had a boyfriend who was really mean about this and accused me of being obsessed with things I found interesting and wanted to talk about. I had forgotten until your post, and how must it hurt me when he sneered like that. I guess because it is also important to me to share like that.

@npub1g0t…tvm4 They let in a lot who aren't actually capable of taking a postgraduate degree taught in English. I wonder if that is pert of the issue. I suspect they're willing to take students who are less academically skilled overall because it makes so much money
