Yes, but I’ve slowed way down on the handyman work, at least for now. Still got everything setup and waiting to get to it, but between my wife volunteering at the pregnancy center and projects around the house and the amount of overtime I get at this new job, it just ain’t been worth trying to do. My main customer has also pretty well driven me crazy, hopping from project to project and severely underestimating timelines for those projects even after I tell her what kind of timeline she can expect lol

Yeah it was pretty great. It was a weekend firefighting school, there was like 5 of us from my department and probably 40 or more total from my county, one of our 5 went for a smoke break and came back to find a Smirnoff ice. Whole bar side starting chanting “Chug it” and then this little 5 ft nothin bald headed scared manager came out and said we had to leave cause “there’s families over there!” And we were like “ok, we’ll pay and get gone but we need a check”. Took ‘em 45 minutes to get us a damn check, we kept up our pace the whole time lol

Been busy! Started new job calibrating scales at the end of January, then got the hand foot mouth plague and that took me out for a whole week. Still dealing with my skin peeling from where the blisters were, which also happens to mean I’ve lost all my calluses. Just a friendly PSA: symptomatic Hand Foot Mouth Disease can happen in adults, and it sucks balls. The first four pics were Saturday afternoon, free my beloved wife went full witch doctor and whipped up a salve which almost immediately began reducing the swelling. I woke up at 0200 that morning, my hands on fire, so swollen from the blisters I couldn’t move them. Honestly, on the new market, the metal jerry cans at Harbor Freight are about the best price/quality option. Currently on sale for $45 a can. Tractor Supply carries the non-communist nozzles that fit right on and a little pop in vent. Eagle cans like this one and the Just-Rite brand run about $60 new and are nigh impossible to find in a store.

Stopped by one of the big surplus stores bout an hour away from me the other day, just to kill a few minutes as I was early for the reason I was in the area. Normally this store is a little over priced, but right off the bat I found a couple of the head wraps I use when I’m welding for $5/$6 so I snagged those. Wandered to the back and what did my eyes fall upon but these two beauts! $18 a piece. Gotta clean ‘em up and figure out a spout for the Napa-branded Eagle, and make sure they both seal (these will go into rotation of my storage fuel to replace the shitty plastic ones). Managed to get up the motivation to do a quick glow plug controller bypass switch, since the glow plug controller is one of the projects that needs replacing. Today is the coldest day we’ve had this winter, and the old 7.3 was NOT happy after sitting for near 9 hours in the parking lot at work. So now, I have control of the glow plugs and have far less to worry about with the cold weather. I do plan to swap to a momentary switch, I just didn’t have one on hand today and didn’t want to go get one and lose daylight (and warmth lol).

Officialy a father of 2 under 2 for 24 hours. Thank god for a good mother in law. Next few years are gonna be wild as hell lol.
Lucie Rachel, born yesterday morning at home. Healthy, happy 9lb 12 oz. Pretty sure my wife, as my buddy said, has first place for the speed birth contest. From water breaking to free baby in 7 minutes. Mother in law actually caught her (and I mean full on catch, it was perfect) and doula did a great job catching the video.
Bo seems interested in her but not jealous. She has yet to lose her mind that somebody was holding Lucie instead of her so we’re super thankful for that.

Spent a few hours on the bumper this afternoon, it’s finally all coming together. Got some details to fanangle tomorrow and hoping to wire up the turn signals and fog lights properly and hopefully wire up the winch. Got a couple more recovery points to add at a later date also. Well, I suck at daily updates here recently lol. Anyway, Thursday, took inventory of all our materials and what we were gonna need to finish the #HugeDeck, and then did what we could with what materials we had on hand (the color Trex we’re using has to be ordered). Also, my trusty Kobalt 35ft tape measure gave up the ghost, I was sad to see it go. I’ve had it probably 5 years or better, and Kobalt discontinued the model. Spent several days after noticing the break starting trying to find a suitable replacement (options are slim in 35ft) and decided on the Hart “Pro Grade” because it has the fractions labeled and had some good reviews. We’ll see. Tapes are a thing where I’m a bit contrarian, I’m not a fan of the Stanley Fat Max, which seems to be the go-to. I’ve had several (my boss in the commercial gig liked them) and they seem to only last me 9 months to a year.
Friday, went to another client’s house to finish caulking their rear windows, driveway, swap out light fixture in their laundry closet, and hang some rope lights on a tree. Came home to put my spare tire on my 5x8 trailer only to find out the spare I been carrying around since I bought the trailer was the wrong rim and was missing a valve….sometimes you just need to stop and look at things y’all lol. I’m probably gonna go ahead and bump up to 5.30-12 tires, Amazon has 2 for $120, and then I’ll keep the best 4.80-12 that’s currently on it as a spare. Since each wheel is on a free spinning hub the different size spare shouldn’t hurt anything in “just get it home” situation. I’ll probably swap the axle to be mounted under the leaf springs when I do that wheel swap also.
That brings us to today; gotta start out by picking up an 8ft 4x4 and a few bags of concrete, then we get to dig holes…again. There’s about 8ft or so between the gazebo and the perimeter fence, and we gotta fill that gap so the silly dogs don’t make an escape.

Yeah, oil change prices around here run like $60, meanwhile I can get 5qts and a filter for like $25, so I save the cash. I also don’t trust most of the lube places around here too much.
Hell, a dealership nearly ruined my mother in laws 2020 Kia cause they forgot the damn 710 cap, she blew oil out all the way home and didn’t realize until her husband smelled burning oil. They checked the garage and the garage was full of smoke lol

I can say that a 2012 Mazda 3 is (extremely surprisingly) the easiest (other than putting in on ramps so I can squeeze under it) vehicle I’ve ever changed oil on. They got the oil filter directly over top of the drain plug so you don’t even have to move yourself or the drain pan, it’s really quite beautiful. I’ll find out about a 2017 Mazda CX-5 here soon.

I’m one of those weirdos that doesn’t throw away my waste from changing oil and fluids in my vehicles…I use to treat the wooden handles of my tools and such, like hammers and axes and all that. Today, I used it to treat the wood on my little 5x8 trailer, which honestly probably needs replacing but this should give it another while before it comes to that.

Playing around with my bandsaw and some crap 2x4, making some rough cuts of some wooden utensils. Still not sure whether pine is really useful as a utensil but I figure might as well use these scraps for something.

I bet lol i got a buddy that worries himself to death about trying to make pretty welds, and he’s not getting paid either it’s just our little Kustom projects, and I have to constantly remind him that’s what grinders are for lol

Can we start a #Toolstr? Currently running an occidental belt and occidental 5in1 hammer loop. Left pouch is harbor freight, right pouch is Ox Tools Outback. The cheaper stuff will get replaced with Occidental as it dies lol.
