@nprofile…emwt I looked for an EV that could work for me and the combination of range and charging speed just wasn't out there. The better BrightDrop packages are close but at the time it would have been close to US$100k for the long range battery and AWD (after taxes, before rebates). That's more than 3x my 2020 ICE van.
That said, I hope you're right that the overall price could drop. I'd love and EV and I'd accept some inconvenience to ditch ICE.

@nprofile…f4e5 I ended up printing my tiny version with an ink jet printer on very matte vinyl to pretty good results. The hard part was cutting them out with clean edges but eventually I tweaked the file enough that my cricut did most of the work.

There are many "design for manufacturing" books, courses, and tutorials out there but most of them are useless for small workshops or worse, they throw unprepared people into the deep end with manufacturing partners and risky capital investment in tools and employees.
There are also many influencers touting shady "home business" products but I've found few folks talking nuts and bolts for people manufacturing very short runs of complex goods.

A few docs on the tubes seem to indicate that PLA filament can be colored with Rit dye so at some point I may try my hand at making specific tints of brown and beige to color match old plastic parts like key caps. If it's like dying fabrics it will require carefully controlling variables and attentive note taking to achieve repeatable and consistent tints. In other words, a good time!

While I love to see folks take their first step into entrepreneurship (especially in manufacturing) and the pain that Levi's attempting to solve is real, I'm not thrilled with the way this crowdfunding is set up. The upside for funders is skimpy. For example, a $500 donation for a possible $600 discount is all risk for almost no reward. Investing before a prototype is demonstrated and on a single person with no track record is a big ask. The rewards should reflect that.
