We have made the decision that when we ‘retire’ in a year or two it will be to Wellington, not my beloved Dunedin. Family reasons - Lisa’s family, my shiny new sister and niece who I simply cannot see enough of.
We’ve started exploring the Wellington house market. And it is sad to see the number of homes there selling way below their CV, their purchase price etc - as public service job losses (and flow-on job losses) really bite. Dunedin prices seem to avoid the boom and bust cycle.

Just a point we need to be clear on. Calling a gay person who has consensual adult relationships a ‘pedo’ IS a hate crime.
Saying the violent attackers called the gay men ‘pedos’ during the attacks and therefore it wasn’t a hate crime as they were not targeting them for being gay, is just a very poorly informed take.

Call from the vet - gorgeous Gordon came through his emergency surgery well. Turns out he swallowed his chew whole - probably to stop Gary pinching it. It is now out and he is awake and getting vet cuddles. Phew.

Oh god, our new puppy gorgeous Gordon is in surgery. He has choked on a leathery chewy food thing and it is lodged in his throat and they’re cutting him open as we speak 😢

I would like a new word describing tax payments positively. Taxes are how we purchase public good activities, to create strong communities for all. Of course, government departments are obligated to spend it well and should be accountable for that.
I hate the biased term ‘tax relief’ - tax cuts are just constantly presented as all upside. But tax cuts mean service cuts.
How do we frame taxes as positive investment?
