That's on purpose - many people and servers have privacy settings to prevent everything from AI scraping to harassment/doxxing. It's more security by obscurity, but it also is one of the few benefits of Mastodon - if we didn't have it, we'd have even MORE driveby trolling, doxxing, etc than we do as it is

(Also, I wish there was a renaming of the field to "subject" to help remove shaming but... I think unfortunately doing that won't remove the connotation that the discourse around such warnings *everywhere* has often attached: that if something Needs Warnings it is inherently bad, not family-friendly, not for public consumption, not "clean," somehow endorsing the thing it's warning for, etc etc etc )

And the thing is, I feel like it's a nuanced discussion - e.g. there is no one size fits all.
Like I've started CWing more stuff than I used to, but I still won't CW marginalized experiences (unless there's visual images like hate symbols or the like) or stuff like weather alerts or "you need to know this to act on it RIGHT NOW because you can actually do something to protect you or others" news
Personally that's how I work the balance, but others can/do see differently 2/2

I get this, too - and I think part of it is the language *of* "content warning" and "trigger warning" sometimes being inherently shamey.
Which can be difficult enough with food and people's relationships with it, which is awful when marginalized people are made to feel their experiences are "shameful" or "unsafe for normal consumption,"
or in the competing needs of "people need to see this emergency," vs "what if it would ruin someone's day" 1/2

At this point the rest of the world *does* need to intervene (it needed to last year, but now is better than never) and end this genocide. Whether it be withdrawing all aid to israel and sanctioning it until there's a people's revolt, or even threatening to remove netanyahu and his fellow far-right genociders from power by force like they would were it any other country

On watching the video, I couldn't help but notice the cops' tattoos (I tend to focus on little details like that when watching disturbing video - it seems more respectful than watching someone who did not deserve to die die, and it can actually help)

Meh, I kind of get this from seeing lots of friend group/affinity group splits even on here (various meta and discourse etc), and while I can't really help I can empathize with how much it hurts to see the valid points both sides of something have, the places where both are weaker/vulnerable, the pressure to "take a stance, NOW" and the fear that if you say/do something it could make *you* the target (and often does) and yet if you don't it does too

Anyone camping or fishing or boating near the #WhitefaceReservoir or the #BoulderLakeReservoir in #Minnesota (especially between them) needs to IMMEDIATELY leave and seek strong shelter now. If you know anyone in that area contact them and tell them ASAP.
There are tornadic storms on the way and while neither place is directly in the polygon yet, all of this space will likely be in the next 20 min or so if this storm doesn't break up.

Ugh, personally I wouldn't do that for my own ethical reasons (e.g. I am aware of the concerns raised and try to respect them as much as possible - I don't think it's a good idea to take a flippant attitude toward people with legitimate concerns, if that makes sense?)
But I can understand how you might feel that way being through the experiences you have, if that makes sense.

I kind of get this on the level of being afraid to create/share art because even IF it's not AI, most of the time I make digital art it's hard to describe/do alt text for (being inherently visual and abstract/psychedelic "bring your own interpretation") + I have a nuanced take regarding AI (e.g. fine with it as long as it's not sexual imagery or passed off as non-AI art) so people might accuse me of using it anyway
I will say the attitude of defining True Art can get really frustrating

More like, I don't ever want to put myself in a position (and I worried about that when I made this account, tbh, and still do sometimes) where I'd end up targeted by harassment communities.
My main experiences with harassment were those that could be stopped just by leaving a fandom/scene where the harassers were or fixing myself, or just changing everything I could to drop a particularly dedicated stalker

THIS. I've often wanted to just stream games and chat/talk about the game while I play but *casually.* Quiet spaces, not showing my face or bothering to create a vtuber thing, not trying for 100 percent completion or perfect strategy unless I *want* to, etc
