i sent my Canada Day post to the mean publisher man and was stressing about the first big image, I was thinking map of Canada but that wasn't fun, so I started looking at children's maps of Canada, like for classrooms or puzzles or whatever and found this I LOVE IT

my big issue with all those 'sophisticated' pop song analysts on YouTube that always act orgasmic about odd harmony ("and the bridge, he goes from Db with a flatted fifth, and then what can only be called a tone cluster based in F major but there's 11ths in there and a D bass?") is some songs are just amazing for opposite reasons "And then they've chosen to go back and forth from G to F....AND THEY KEEP DOING IT FOR FIVE MINUTES MY FUCKING GOD THIS IS INCREDIBLE"

i usually like to go to my smoke shop weekends during the day but i didn't go last weekend and sure enough i was outta smokes.

the great Shelagh McDonald who wasn't a HARD folk singer she's like a cross between Sandy Denny and uhm Judy Collins or Joni, she's backed by like a bunch of Fairporters and the bass player from Pentangle and a bunch of folkies and she's called 'folk' but it's kinda middle of the road BUT she was a great singer and she does do a trad. song or two. She's most known for COMPLETELY DISAPPEARING FOR THIRTY YEARS .

In 2006 Omni Records released a Porter Wagoner compilation called "The Rubber Room" which is an astonishing compilation - removing Porter's cheesy made for TV hits, just giving you all the really deep crazy cuts, the reasons why he was awesome. And in 1981 Julian Cope put out the "Fire Escape In The Sky" Scott Walker collection which did the same sorta thing - Scott's own writing, the least cabaret stuff.
I could do the same with Marie Laforet. Someone should. She's amazing

I think Nino Ferrer was able to navigate all that 70s production, the very dated techniques and arrangements and ornamentation not because he or his producers did anything super tasteful but HE'S JUST SO COOL like Lou Reed's Arista work, Lou walked away with that still Lou Reed because he was LOU REED

It's funny I never ever saw him as machismo but maybe because of my focus on the hippie stuff!

a Japanese composer I've recently become acquainted with - the guy wrote A LOT so I bet anything I say will ....be inaccurate and wrong. But he writes VERY evocative stuff, he has no fear of harmonic perversity, there's a little Debussy in here, a little Cage, a little Western music, a little Japanese. It's fascinating. I now know when bands put PLAY LOUD on the record sleeve, 9/10 times they fucked up the mix and the masterer had to squash the shit out of everything so that's their last attempt to get you to hear what they wanted to in the studio
Except the B-52s! This record is technically excellent all the way, top to bottom, cymbals to bass, so I can only assume they want you to play loud to encourage dancing and/or gyrations.
Its a great record!
