Look at it this way: Haskell's do-notation actually looks like procedural code. If you actually write procedural in any language, you have to take care of error handling, exception handling, possibly async tasks, logging, etc. This will inevitably clutter your code and make it less readable. Not so in Haskell. Monads allow you to abstract these things away and do-notation actually looks like procedural (do this, then do this), but without all this other stuff around (aka try-catch f.e.).

It often times fails to connect to the node, needs multiple retries, and even then it's kind of slow. For me that's the pain point.

I was pushing hard for a next B.I.G. futr release with tons of additions, before Christmas. Unfortunately I got sick last week and now it's not yet finished. I still try to release before end of year.
What's so far to expect in the next release:
- public short text notes
- comments
- reposts
- quote reposts
- event deletion
- persistant lmdb event cache and app backend
- improved inbox- & subscription model
- improved app performance
- add ping/pong to websocket connections
- some nice UI additions
- cleaner code structure, removing hundreds of old lines of code that is not required anymore

Persistent app state with LMDB backend almost finished. I still need to update some subscriptions logic, but I'm very close to releasing next beta.
Side note: apparently with (almost) each feature I add, I reduce the total amount of lines of code. Haskell is really beautiful.
