Has anyone out there tried to write up when to use the Part Workbench vs the Part Design Workbench in :freecad: @nprofile…nj7h?
I've seen this in the documentation but it mostly just describes how they are different and not why to choose one over the other.

I cannot find any prebuilt aarch64 versions of #OrcaSlicer out there for #AsahiLinux but it will build.
You'll need to create an asahi-fedora-remix file in linux.d that looks like [https://github.com/amdavidson/OrcaSlicer/blob/asahi/linux.d/fedora-asahi-remix](this one).
Then you can run the recommended sudo ./BuildLinux.sh -u && ./BuildLinux.sh -dsi
I didn't have enough memory on my system to satisfy (>10gb free) it so I had to build single threaded ( -1 ) and edit BuildLinux.sh to look for less memory.
My Bambu Network Plugin doesn't work for my P1S, but it seems to work fine otherwise.

I printed a coaster from PLA while I was mocking up a design and I use it under a hot tea mug daily and it hasn’t deformed yet, a month or so later.
I had assumed it wouldn’t last at all.
I printed the sets of coasters from PETG and ASA but I keep using the PLA one to see what will happen to it.

Trialing cereal boxes instead of vacuum bags for filament storage. I can’t get any vacuum bags to hold a seal for more than a couple uses, which makes their cost significantly higher than it would initially seem.
These are a bit higher up front investment ($4 per box, 60g filament, 4 608 bearings, +hygrometers if you’d like) but, if I added the ptfe fitting, I can print from them and they will hopefully last a lot longer.
I’m not in love with this design—it’s a little filament wasteful and not ideal to print—but it works until I design my own.

The HoneyBadger semi-satin plate from Fabreeko might be the perfect TPU plate. Great adhesion without it being a pain to remove.
Now if only I could get my TPU profile a little better tuned.

For my last ASA prints I used the textured plate but I am going to test this one for ASA soon when I get calibrated for my boxturtle prints.

It’s been about four months since I started hosting my own email again.
I have absolutely zero regrets. As large providers prove, now more than ever, that they are not on our side, it feels great to have that aspect of my online life under control.
I used the wonderful Run Your Own Mail Server book by the fedi’s own @nprofile…q5wq to guide my install.
It has been absolutely stable, I have perfect deliverability to the email empire, I’m on zero blocklists, and spam control is great.
If you’re a sysadmin, self-hoster, homelabber, ignore the nay-sayers. You can do it too.

@nprofile…76at it is definitely not for everyone, and certainly shouldn't be the first thing you go and try to self host. It has a much higher level of sensitivity and requires being very detailed to make it successful.

I have never really used @nprofile…qj8a before but I had a dormant account: @nprofile…mfzj
I grabbed the TestFlight app and followed this account.
And it worked perfectly. A totally plausible Instagram replacement that grabbed and rendered all of the images I’ve publicly posted from this account.
I might have to suggest this to others who are looking to flee Meta...

Working on a solder fume extractor this week.
I got my first proto done today. Seems to do the job reasonably well.
It’s designed to use a pretty standard 120mm fan with Hakka A1001 style filters for compatibility.
Designed in #FreeCAD. I will share it all once I get it done. I need my order of switches and power connectors to show up.

I’ve had various #iPhone models since they issued me one at Apple, when android was just a twinkle in Andy Rubin’s eye… I haven’t even played with an #Android phone since I had a loaner G1 to check out the competition.
I’m looking at trying #GrapheneOS on a refurb Pixel for my next phone.
Converting my family off iMessage is the biggest problem, but after that…What should I know?
I’m watching every app I use over the next week to make a list and then I’ll start googling compatibility. I use no Google services and only Apple Music, but I’m plenty happy to drop that.

@nprofile…vz0p @nprofile…jjf7 I’ve done these mid drive conversions. If you’re reasonably handy (do you do your own bike maintaince?) they’re not so bad.
There are also often shops that will do them for you.

I had a bunch of small command strips and no hooks to hang my kids' advent calendar.
The models on printables are nice looking, but generally have bad print orientations or require supports or have various other issues.

Easily printable on its side for correct layer orientations for the loading, libre license, and FreeCAD file included, but is chunky enough that it should scale well enough in a slicer for other command strip sizes.

What’s the best filament dryer on the market?
I have an Eibos Easdry which does a good enough job on drying but doesn’t fit spools with spool or AMS weights and is side loading, which is a pain point in my setup.
I’m looking at the Polyphemus at the moment.

I just flow rate tested ambrosia asa to 34mm^3/s; the fastest I’ve ever gotten on this machine ( :voron: +rapido2+clockwork2)
There are a few of us who print these #speedfox models from time to time as an alternative to #speedboatrace. So it’s time for another submission.

I’ve seen plenty of 3D printed toys for sale at flea markets or a pile of dragons on a countertop displayed as an after thought, but this is the first time I’ve seen them in blister pack and for sale amongst the other toys on the shelves.

I was in a toy store shopping for christmas gifts and saw the exact yo-yo I had as a child. I nearly purchased it but I didn't. What kind of busy adult needs a yo-yo?

That would restart all of userspace, but leave the kernel and firmware up.

3D Printing gang: I’m looking for a dark brown UV stable filament. Something like an ASA or PETG would be good.
I can find several military looking light browns, but I haven’t seen a good dark brown yet.

@nprofile…kt9v I’ve used much less of their abs—just a portion of a spool—and haven’t seen it yet. I’ve used probably 5 kilo of their PLA and have had several breaks mid-print.
