I thought I would try something different today. This was a location I had wanted to shoot for a while and the day that I made it out was foggy, giving the scene and ethereal feel.

Lightning over Kanopolis.
This was captured beneath a particularly intense and at times nearly supercell thunderstorm that ranged across central Kansas on May 8, 2021. I set up two cameras, one on an intervalometer and the other with a lightning trigger.
This was actually the result of a timed exposure with the invervalometer engaged and speaks to the intensity of the lightning barrage that I was able to capture multiple bolts in a single 5 second exposure.
I was watching the storm from the safety of my car, with the proximity and frequency of the lightning strikes hitting a little too close for comfort!

Looking towards the weekend, and a Valentine's Day nod to my wife - featured in this image. We've been keen to explore Arkansas since we moved here and while kids have slowed that down, we try to get into the mountains as often as we can. This was taken during one such adventure in early 2017.

Taking this #WaterfallWendesday back to Iceland in 2019. I don't share location names, but I was excited to have the right lighting to capture a rainbow with this popular waterfall during my visit.

Waves on the beach in Malibu. This photo was taken while I was on a long work assignment assisting with wildfire recovery efforts in the Los Angeles area in early 2019. I took one of my evenings off to spend time on the beach and captured several photos like this under the cool blue hour light.

This was a challenging photo. I captured it about 7 years ago while driving from Salt Lake City up to southern Montana to be in a friend's wedding. When I started looking into the logistics of my arrival time, I realized there would be an opportunity to photograph the Milky Way somewhere under the dark skies of northern Utah or southern Idaho. Not wanting to stray too far off the highway, I looked for areas that might offer a unique foreground for the composition.
I soon realized that the highway alignment (northwest to southeast) would allow for a "highway to the stars" type of image, and started looking for an ideal overpass. This one caught my eye and I couldn't have been happier with the results. It took some time to capture, as it was necessary to get all of the Milky Way images without traffic on the highway, and then of course I needed to get a few images with light trails from the cars on the highway below.
I didn't have star tracker at the time, but other than that there are few things I would've changed considering the challenge and how it turned out!

Through all of the canyonlands of the Southwestern US, this viewpoint is among my favorites. But it's also a testament to the consequences of visitors behaving badly. If you know where this is, you know that it's on tribal land that historically required a permit to access, but that the area has been closed since late 2019 due to people visiting without permits and for trashing the area. I captured this photo in early 2019, before the area was closed, by going through the proper permitting process and leaving no trace.

Today is #WaterfallWednesday and this opportunistic shot is one of my favorite longer exposures captured in daylight. Dettifoss is fed by glacial runoff from Vatnajökull in northeast Iceland and is reportedly the second most powerful waterfall in Europe.
