Got to play with Chachi more! Been using it mostly through Keychat browser mode cause I found it could load my private Flotilla space faster and it helped me sort out bloat on that relay. Now it helped reveal to me this issue with 0xchat where some group chats not private when users clearly thought they were.

What's sad is I've recomended your client to a lot of folks and from what I can tell the only way to get a private closed group to work is by running you own relay for it. That key step is missing an explaination! At least Flotilla points to relay.tools to support the user. You've got no tutorial that I can find and your average user is going to assume everything is private when it is not. Trust broken!

Why is it when I create a nip-29 closed group the messages are still visible to any random npub on Chachi? Why does it flip to public open when that was not what was selected upon creation? Why display edit options to chage the group configurations when they constantly flip back to public?

Can someone explain to me how PRIVATE group chats or communities are supposed to work on nostr?
I have been experimenting in this space for nearly 6 months now and devs have done wonders on building the public side of this. But private is where customer trust is built! That is what the average user is coming for and what they are expecting.
What's the barrier here?
Is running your own relay the only way to do this? The average pleb is never going to be able to do that successfully so I'm not sure how this approach can ever scale to meet mass adoption needed to support communities.
This is probably the most important element needed to bring creators into nostr. Am I missing something or why has this not been a priority?

Inspired by @nprofile…jxuw to reorder my home screen for this.
The nostr ecosystem is continually growing. BTW, this is just iOS. Pretty sure Andriod has more and the best experience is still on desktop (Keychat being a big game-changer on opening that up to mobile!). Yes, Flotilla is on here twice (dark icon is PWA). No, I don't use all of these daily.

Right! 😂 It's a whole different game when you add the visuals. I listen to some of these video ones at work sometimes and you can miss huge segments of context because they are now playing off visual cues that would be intentionally explained if it was audio only. I think it does a huge disservice to the audio creators becuase visual cuts out a layer of imagination that you automatically get to explore with audio.

Martin Lings was student of René Guénon (both were prominent converts from the early part of the last century) and studied witb him in Cairo for over a decade. But before that he had been a student of C. S. Lewis at Oxford where he had specialized in Shakespeare. In fact, while living in Cairo he taught Shakespeare at the University of Cairo and annually produced the plays. Both these books (they're actually the same book, L is 3rd edition and R is 5th edition) document how Lings viewed Shakespeare in light of a more esoteric understanding of Islam. The tldr is that Lings saw in these classic works of english literature a story of the spiritual transforation of the soul, and that it was particularly noticable in the theatrical performances.
I'm not sure if Lings held to the theory that Shakespeare was actually Sheikh Pir or Sheikh Zubair, but he certainly was of the opinion that muslims could find benefit in them.

I looked at substack 2 years ago when I was starting on nostr and it was clear to me that nostr had more potential. I have no issue with delete (if you are intentionally publishing content for public view what purpose does delete hold? Delete can and does work on private relays so if that's something you want, and we should, then those are spaces that need to grow) and edit is possible for articles (I've used it myself). I also don't feel like I'm stingy with zaps but open to feedback there although I feel its an area that could be relative. I do like that RSS is coming back, this is probably a good thing. And thsnk you for reminding me, I need to go adjust/update my RSS reader 😅

Okay, that makes sense! I just tried using nsec.app from desktop instead and that worked. iOS login was actually really quick that way. But yes, we really need a better bunker/signer for iOS.
I still have an issue in Flotilla where the relay takes forever to load messages, this is both web, PWA, and iOS. Usually the most recent message in a thread or room loads, but getting everything to load takes between 30mins and 3days sometimes. What's odd is I can pull up my relay on Chachi or 0xchat and all messages load in less than a minute (seems to be read only on those clients but the read experience comes off better) 🤷🏻‍♂️

Finally finished this last night. Season goes out a bit extreme. The Bush jokes might have been overplayed but certainly had me laughing. Personally wish they'd tied up a few more plot lines. Loved the creativity though! I feel like producing something at this level will not be that difficult in a few years and it does a solid job innovating and testing out this medium.

Coinos with Damus usually works fine for me. I just set someone up that way this past week. Yakihonne is by far my favorite client though and Jumble has great options for expanding your feed. I have yet to try Amethyst so you're ahead of me there 😁
I personally don't find any merits to SM platforms and morally detest their policies and business practices. Trying to compare them to nostr, which is a protocol, is false analogy. I have no problem with people who do find benefit from such platforms, we can disgree on that. But treating them as categorically equivalent to nostr is an invalid inference.
I think most any bitcoiner would say Saifedaen is required reading. I believe the brothers at @npub1f7n…m25c are working to publish an academic journal soon so if you have criticism for them I'm sure they'd appreciate the feedback. Otherwise, I know of Major Lowery's paper at MIT that was quite "academic"...
I think it is very easy to form bubbles or echo chambers here on nostr. Some effort is required to diversify. Most clients don't have great tools built to assist with this yet although they are improving. I see it s lot like early bitcoin days - a bit rough and bumpy but over time you form lovely communities. That time spent is the important part! Bitcoin took a few cycles before it hit 100k. Nostr has only been around about 3 years and already has rebuilt from protocol nearly everything SM platforms have done in the past 2 decades. For me the beauty of the future to come is what makes the wild journey here worth it. I'm sure that won't be the case for everyone, but hopefully you can find something beneficial in nostr while you're here.

Two fundamental axioms of SAIF are:

To explore this further, and because nostr is a fun public journal, I'm going to log some personal notes via Bookstr on Fisher's CCRU thesis. Aim here is to shed some light on an Islamic approach to accelerationism with a particular interest in what this means for cultural formation.

So Flotilla released an iOS app recently but I've yet to be able to get it to work. Seems to be a connection issue with nsec app as lag time is very slow compared to the PWA of Flotilla I've been running the padt few months.
Just launched Flotilla in the KeyChat browser and voilà, faster login than from my desktop!

As a quick solution or as a backup I think is fine. For noobs to onboard easily and learn the space, great! Beyond that I think we have plenty of better options. And if the use is as discribed (to just send btc), then just use Strike - it's PrimalWallet's backend already and has way better functionality.
Non-KYC isn't a beginner topic really so trying to onboard straight to that is a big ask! Easiest way I can see though is @npub1h2q…w8ch and P2P.

Look for the new moon on Sat. Mar. 29 to determine the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal and the arrival of Eid al-Fitr. The crescent (hilal) would be visible shortly after sunset, above the area where the sun had set.
