People are frustrating. A story.
We stopped for some diesel at a large fuel station today. I walked in to pay and wound my way through a small crowd of people waiting for coffees or pies or whatever to get to the counter. Also passed a young Muslim bloke (wearing a taqiyah) kneeling on the floor near the front windows. Unusual, but maybe he was praying (it was raining)?
I paid, turned around, and realised that he was shaking. Not unusual now, concerning.
I knelt down beside him and asked him if I could help. He told me he was scared he was going to have a stroke because his heart was racing. He was suffering from arrhythmia and, due to burgeoning anxiety, was unable to get a handle on it. I rested a hand on his shoulder, talked him through controlling his breathing to control his heart (I have suffered from SVT + ectopic beats all of my life), and chatted quietly with him. He was so damned scared. Scared he was going to stroke out or die, alone on the floor.
I (an atheist) told him his god had a plan for him, and it wasn't (waving my hand around) this. Asked if I could check his pulse after a few minutes and found his heart calm and strong. All good. Left him feeling much better and, I hope, much more able to deal next time.
The frustration?
𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘌𝘓𝘓 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱? Why the HELL was everyone just standing there like he didn't exist? Customers and staff, all just interested in the minutiae of purchasing something at the espense of a human being literally on the floor in front of them.
People are frustrating.

Queensland are heading in the right direction. Now, if only the Federal Government would make similar decisions.

Last day of workingnon the engine for now. Finished putting all the fiddly little heat shields back on and in the process discovered why the power has been woeful — the vacuum line that controls the turbo wastegate was burned through. This means he waste gate would always be open, thus the turbo would never spin up.
The apprentice did the underneath work last time it was at the mechanic's. He seems to have missed a few things...
Fixed with a bit of spare diesel-heater fuel hose and some clamps that I had lying around.
Still can't find the collant leak but have eliminated a few places where it's NOT coming from, so that's good. I have a borescope coming so I'll be able to get a look at the spots that are currently a mystery to me.
On the motor, you grubs.
Runs better now. Tomorrow will tell whether the power output is back to where it should be and whether the smoke-under-load has reduced.

I don't get it.
Here in Australia, in one of Sydney's biggest hospitals (Royal Prince Alfred aka RPA) masks are mandatory at all times — for everybody. And they WILL kick you out if you don't follow the rules.
Yet I'm reading that many health services worldwide are only now "considering" maybe perhaps one day reintroducing masks.
What the flaming fark? Just bloody do it! Masking saves getting a nasty dose of a number of airborne diseases, and hospitals & doctors' rooms are know for their diseases — it's why they exist for crying out loud!
We mask in shops etc too, but I get it, perhaps they're not as bad as a health setting. Perhaps. You do you there. But a hospital? There should be no question.
If not for you, for the other patients.

Like Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, Deranged Jack Smith, and New York AG Letitia James, Fulton County, GA's radical Democrat District Attorney Fani Willis is a rabid partisan who is campaigning and fundraising on a platform of prosecuting President Trump through these bogus indictments. Ripping a page from Crooked Joe Biden’s playbook, Willis has strategically stalled her investigation to try and maximally interfere with the 2024 presidential race and damage the dominant Trump campaign. All of these corrupt Democrat attempts will fail.

That didn’t go so well.
Boss lady went in for her operation to open up and stent the artery (RCA)11. They went in via her wrist and groin and just as they got to the blockage she had a reaction to the cocktail of drugs they used to keep her relaxed and started vomiting.
Operation cancelled.
Back on the ward, crook as a dog, and we’ll see you maybe Monday or more likely Tuesday to try again, this time with full anaesthesia.
When I left tonight she was still out to it, though her stats were good.
Don’t know what they did different to Orange, but RPA will be on her shit-list now ...

Well, that was an ... interesting day.
A few days ago my wife toddled into hospital with chest pains - these are frequent as she has a haitus hernia - for a perfusion test. Showed no probs with the heart and blood tests showed no heart attack but the scans did show an issue with a possible artery blockage.
Today she toddled into a bigger hospital for an angiogram and possible rebore (whatever it's called) of the artery in question. They found the RCA >95% blocked and couldn't shift it, even with two wires in working on it.
Now she's in the cardiac ward overnight waiting for an ambulance flight to an even bigger hospital - good old RPA in Sydney.
Meanwhile I'm stealth-camping in a carpark outside a yet-to-be-finished shopping complex over the road from the hospital, working out where to park the motorhome (which child to land on) in the Sydney basin and what to do with two kelpies and a cat.
Well, not the cat, he pretty much takes care of himself. 😼
They reckon she will be flown down, operated on, kept overnight, and flown back instanter. We'll see. 🤷‍♂️

Says it all, really. Trump might be an unrepentant sinner bound for Hell, but as long as he backs what the good preachers of the USA want, he's their man.

I started looking at the insane lengths schools in the USA are going to in order to make "Lockdown Drills" realistic. We're talking about kids, from 3 to 18, being put through unannounced "drills" that involve (in some cases) fake blood and the sound of gunfire¹
Trauma is NOT the point of drills. Kids are supposed to be learning what to do and where to go, not being made to viscerally believe that they are about to die. Muscle memory, not PTSD.
One article from USA Today stated that the chances of being murdered in a school shooting was 1 in 10,000,000 – turns out that is lousy reporting. For a start, they only include students murdered on campus during school hours; a little bit selective. A child injured is not unaffected; a child who's best friend has been murdered or injured is not unaffected. A child who watches their teacher bleed out on the classroom floor is not unaffected.
The real numbers give a child 1 chance in 48,000 of being injured or murdered in a school shooting. That's insanity. The number of traumatised children will be much, much higher.

Texas, USA. A Bill before the State House seeks to have regular training for trauma response in schools.
For who? For 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 from 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 up.
3rd Grade. 8 years old. They're going to learn how to, after successfully hiding from a school shooter, triage their classmates, pick the ones that might survive, apply 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤 techniques to try and keep them alive, and move on to the next victim.
America, you have a serious bloody problem.
