Last day of workingnon the engine for now. Finished putting all the fiddly little heat shields back on and in the process discovered why the power has been woeful β the vacuum line that controls the turbo wastegate was burned through. This means he waste gate would always be open, thus the turbo would never spin up.
The apprentice did the underneath work last time it was at the mechanic's. He seems to have missed a few things...
Fixed with a bit of spare diesel-heater fuel hose and some clamps that I had lying around.
Still can't find the collant leak but have eliminated a few places where it's NOT coming from, so that's good. I have a borescope coming so I'll be able to get a look at the spots that are currently a mystery to me.
On the motor, you grubs.
Runs better now. Tomorrow will tell whether the power output is back to where it should be and whether the smoke-under-load has reduced.
