Even without any pollution taxes, decommissioning fees, pipeline build & tolls, strategic fund accumulation, and with $40B in annual non-pipeline subsidies, this is not a genuinely profitable industry at foreseeable prices.

A friend that I play pickup hockey with recently lost his daughter to the opioid epidemic. Today was his first day back.
I don't know much about her or what happened, other than she was 22 years old.
We've been playing together for >10 years, which would've made her quite a bit younger than my own daughter, when we started.

I run uBlock Origin or other ad-blockers in every browser I use.
Sometimes I get the "hey, you're blocking ads, we can't make money" popups. From otherwise agreeable news sites.
Then I think to myself, if you just ran the ads yourself, from your own site, without the adsystem trackers involving Meta/Google/Amazon, then the ads would probably get through.
The ads themselves aren't the problem. It's that publishers want to send all the data and most of the revenue to someone else.

After a very busy week of kids' sports and unexpected, unrelated hospital visits, had a rest day yesterday and a big shop at Costco today.
A lot of fruit and veg purchases for the convalescent.
US produce is not selling. Those familiar with Costco know that it can be hard to find romaine in the winter, the stack in the produce room completely ravaged. Not today. Extra pallet protruding awkwardly, barely touched.

3 shareholder proposals.
1 - language aggravation from QC holders. against.
2 - in-person board meetings. Definitely For. RTO for labour means RTO for board.
3 - adhere to voluntary code wrt to AI. Definitely for.
BCE has dumped over 10k Canadian employees in recent years to offshore its labour to India. It even started a consulting arm in India to facilitate it.

This is currently a convenient attack on Pierre Poilievre, but allowing intelligence services to veto elected office will mostly be used against progressives, as it has been in the past.
Access to secret information for federal and provincial cabinet members is granted by Privy Council membership.
Any attempt to limit who can run/hold office will be rightfully killed by the SCC. Democratic rights are #1.

The latest CPC attack ad seems pretty weak. Just calling Carney "sneaky" and showing the same poor quality video of Carney about 15 times in 30s.
I'm hoping that all the parties keep hammering away on PPs refusal to get security clearance, which Carney got in a couple of weeks.

Lemmy works pretty good. Doesn't have the big user count yet, but lots going on. Like other fediverse platforms, a bit of work to build your feed content up by finding and joining communities. I use a mobile app called Jerboa which works pretty good.

The Chretien/Martin era was the period of profoundly conservative economic policy, cutting budgets and downloading costs to provinces with no resources to pay for them...our health and education systems have not recovered from that. Trudeau mentions the failure of electoral reform. Claiming they had no support from other parties, which is... a lie or omission... since the NDP has long supported electoral reform. The LPC wouldn't even acknowledge the report. They ran on it and won a majority. That's all the support needed.
I've always understood the opposition to electoral reform comes from within the LPC, and nothing has changed that today.

Seal the apartment door to the common hallway as best you can. A towel works OK to seal the crack under the door. You want ventilation of the apartment without exchanging air with the common hallway.

A side benefit of having a family member with #t1d is that I've learned how to remove #Christmas tree sap from my hands.
Diabetic devices like blood sugar monitoring and insulin pumps are attached to the skin with sticky bandages. The sticky adhesives on these are made of refined balsam sap, which is usually non-reactive to skin. Always unsticking these and getting adhesive on my hands.
First cooking oil, then liquid hand soap. Scrub. Then rinse. Sticky is gone.

After 13 days, the shelf elf has been located in its first hiding spot, concealed inside a cardboard star decoration hanging from the ceiling. It isn't easy to hide from 2 teens and an adult.
Next hiding options:
- in a ziploc, buried in the soil of the huge hibiscus tree pot
- stuffed deep within the couch
- immersed inside the aquarium cartridge filter
- taped up under the back of a shelf
other than that, it's pulling up floorboards or drywalling the critter into the walls.
