TIL that even in flat feed mode, tear-away stabilizer is bound to emerge from the laser printer looking like a lightly singed accordion.
(Yes, I am aware that printable stabilizer exists, but those substrates are not appropriate for this particular commission where I need to transfer an embroidery design to leather.)

After much faffing, I’ve got the first of the decorative motif blocks onto the prototype for Jorge’s #GlamCowboy jacket. A combo of super thick mercerized cotton and silk twist threads did the trick and required no additional invisible tacking to maintain stability. Now to start trying out the various options to fill the shapes. #sewing #ElfkinCouture

So here’s something that I’ve never seen before in all my years of #sewing… a knot tied in the middle of a spool of thread (Tire silk in this instance). It was obviously to join two threads during manufacture, same as one would using the tie-on method to thread a serger.
Luckily I spotted it before it could make itself an ugly part of the button holes that I was stitching.
Definitely not something I expect in $6 for 100m premium silk thread. 🤨

Coming up in the #sewing queue is a commission for two kaftans for Bernie, and these are the scrumptious silks that I’ll be using. A rolled hem is so… predictable. I’ve decided to use this stunning ombré, bias-cut silk ribbon to finish the edges instead. 💅🏻

Paul’s #RibbonShirt commission is coming along nicely. Just about to close up the plackets.
Related: I wouldn’t be making #couture without a lot of hand stitching (see: all of the basting stitches on this placket). Thank the #sewing gods for these little leather dots. I can put it right where I need it and not get the finger claustrophobia of a thimble.

The front pieces are all prepped for Paul’s #RibbonShirtToile with ribbons, plackets, and buttonholes. Leaving gaps in the horizontal ribbon rows, sewing them all at once, and then weaving through the vertical fringe at the end was easier than doing it all at the same time. #sewing

It brought me to the edge of sanity, but I’ve got the flaps and pocket bags for the cargo pockets finally matched up to carry through the tableaus from the front legs.
