Value for Value is going one direction only, but I don't think it will be adopted as quickly as it should.
Just been to watch a local sporting event and told it's enforcing a 5€ admission fee. I paid it under duress and watched the worst sporting event imaginable.
Having been charged entry, I didn't spend a penny more on lottery tickets or drinks.
As a result I spent less overall than when there was a zero entry fee, and having paid, I was not OK with the crap spectacle. No drinks and no lottery to divert me away from the rubbish value of the admission fee.
Value for Value is perfect for building. Not sure what works best after the service or product has been perfected, but as it's early days, that's not a concern right now.

Even when investment was in earnest, in the late 80s the training boards like CITB, quango degens, dumbed down the traditional multi disciplinary City and Guilds pathway and essentially refocused on providing cheap labour trained to the specific requirements of the largest construction companies. Ie the industry went from highly skilled to competent site work standards. Another corporate hijack of standards.

I'm OK with the sound of crickets when posting on Nostr about #paint, #kitchenpainter #decorator... In 2009-10 I spent 12 months religiously writing 3 blog articles a week describing the work my company was doing. Nobody read them. I was on Twitter and had very few followers or interactions. Then the following 6 months interest rose very slowly, picking up a few regular readers. By 2012 I "owned" all the search terms I wrote about and I had quite a vibrant Twitter account. The business took off. Online contacts became real world contacts. And being successful online looked so easy once it had that momentum behind it.
But we all know it's not easy, even though the strategy ( for those not willing to buy success) is simple. Keep on keeping on being helpful.
At some point every post I have published on Nostr will get read, a lot, which is why I put effort into them now for nobody to read. Nothing wasted but. #marketing is hard.

Brush hand painters - pintores de brocha grande - they can paint fast with brushes and rollers.
In my view the best technical painters are working in automotive. The level of discipline and product knowledge in spray painting is awesome. Even more than kitchen cabinet painters, they have nowhere to hide because everybody has a good idea of what a good car paint job looks like and how it endures. They have lots to teach the #decorating brush hands.

There is no limit to what can be painted. Even fish get a coat if they hang around long enough.
I'm painting basecoats on plaster of Paris fish ( latex based stabilising solution plus 2 coats of acrylic wall paint). Once prepared an artist with a brush comes along to do their stuff. Then I protect it all with 2 coats of clear exterior satin varnish.
About 40 of these will be on poles, minus masking tape, as part of a huge art installation #fish #paint

The first one, don't use silicone, instead use a decorator caulk - interior/exterior 12% flexible acrylic that is designed to be over-painted, unlike most silicone.
The second "bag" trick is really clever, by which I mean I never thought of that! It would be great on a load of deep screw holes. If you used "non shrink filler", it is best to do two passes. In that case the bag trick would be a fast way to do the first fill. Let it set off, then whizz by again for a second fill with a palette knife.
The tape on the new sleeve to remove lint, good job.
Vaseline to protect surfaces, not a bad idea, but a) I would use it on something you cannot remove - unlike 99.9% of door handles! and b) artists use a masking fluid that Im sure is more compatible with painting than vaseline. Cant think of anything at the moment to try it on, but worth remembering.
The lid to catch drippy paint running out the stock of the brush is a bit silly. In that instance use a mini roller with a microfibre sleeve. Much faster and cleaner. When you wash out brushes, give them really a good flick and always leave them hanging to dry, or if not hanging, laid down on the angle with the handle higher than the bristles so water naturally rolls out the stock.
The trick to force max paint out the brush is clever too. Combine that with a DIY paint roller cleaner! You convert a litre bottle by cutting the bottom open and screwing the lid to a fixed surface. Put the roller (on a frame) inside the bottle. Screw the bottle into the lid so it makes an upside down "flask. Put a hose on it, so the roller spins.
There used to be a patent version of that idea where you span the roller inside a flask with a drill, literally 5 seconds and any roller was centrifugally cleaned perfect.
The last trick is silly. Either use a bigger version of that brush to cut straight lines, or an artist type brush. In either case, the trick to painting a straight line is to keep the bristles turning. Slowly turn the artist brush between your fingers, or use your wrist to turn the bigger brush so you always have fresh loaded bristles in contact with the line. Easier to do than explain, so you can do it.

I saw that style of scaffold used for repainting a supertanker. Along with rollers on really long bamboo poles and crazy rope work, it was like a scene from Lilliput. The job was finished before a German competitor could have got one side scaffolded out.

Decorators caulk is the flexible filler in a tube that you apply with a gun to fill cracks along the tops of trim and between ceiling and wall lines. It is a super time-saver compared to fillers and fingers, but it can often cause more problems than it solves. This is due to incompatibility between mostly latex (ie low acrylic content) paint and the caulk where the surface tensions are different and on drying the paint cracks.
The easiest way to reduce issues is to find a decorator caulk where it literally says on the tube: acrylic, over paints in 1-2 hours, and the important parts: interior and exterior use and +-12% flexibility. If it doesn't say all that, especially the flexibility, it almost certainly doesn't meet those criteria and avoid it. #askahousepainter #askakitchenpainter

For a primer coat on chalky and new porous surfaces there are a few paint choices. This is clear latex IE a PVA based clear sealer formulated to be over painted.
This latex is a different beast to PVA as in glue or the sealer used by plasterers. I have seen so many issues where builders and DIY try to get away with this option to seal porous surfaces prior to painting. Don't risk it.
By far the better choice of primer is 100% acrylic based. PVA is the poor relation to acrylic resins. Acrylic primers tend to be white but clear versions are available.
And once you start delving into "best primers" you will discover a whole world of sealers formulated for damp, or smoke damage, lime or mould.
One space age option is from Clasidur which penetrates deep into a substrate, binds down chalky surfaces and seals back stains.

What to do with the #paint on a door like this? Strip it off back to bare timber. For a translucent finish to highlight the grain, while maintaining the current colour, use oxalic acid to remove the stains, and finish with tinted hardwax oil from Osmo. If the woodwork turns out to be ropy, which is often the case for painted doors, the quick answer is a solid finish again with primer, undercoats and top coats. My lightning wallet journey so far, potentially of interest to those who aren't fully conversant with how it works.
I have used lightning for ages with Muun which is a self-custodial wallet but a bit of a hybrid of lightning/btc from what I can gather. And a raft of usual custodial lightning wallets from Play Store. But I have just set up #phoenix self custody wallet and learnt more about the workings of lightning in those few minutes than the whole period up til now. Such is the cost of convenience when everything is done for you and you remain clueless!
On Phoenix I set up a first invoice for a 1000 sats trial amount to transfer from alby. I was welcomed to the world of self custody with a 2400 sats fee. Steep wtf learning curve - I didn't understand the settings about an onchain fee to set up a channel.
After setting up the liquidity channel ( a term I have heard over and over without knowing what it really was) subsequent transaction fees are tiny/ single sats fees which I was used to when using custodial wallets on Nostr.
Phoenix works just fine now for up to 25000 sats total incoming payments, at which point the channel is closed.
In other words, the fee for setting up the channel on Phoenix is the cost of being a lot more self sovereign than when using convenient custodial wallets. Phoenix isn't completely trustworthy, by their own admission, but users are a lot less rug pullable than those using full-on custodial wallets.
I then learnt from Phoenix that it cost 7000sats to set up a liquidity channel to receive up to 500,000 sats. About 1.5% fee.
I am getting closer I guess to the world of nodes and true bitcoiner!, where you can set up your own liquidity channel by interacting direct with the btc blockchain? Is that how wallet devs are earning money, basically setting up liquidity channels with millions of sats capacity and handling lightning transactions for wallet users charging a miniscule fee that adds up over time?
Bitcoin is a never ending learning cycle. Back to the #painting.
I'm going to set up an offer "Jobs at Cost" to launch a new painting service. As long as half the discounted invoice is paid in sats. We will see.

You may well be able to double the targets stated, great, but you are only able to aim for that higher level, once you first reached the goals using the tactics required.
For instance, if you beefed up your initial plan to show a profit of 360k if you do a, b c... it would be a mistake, because to redo the initial business plan, you are putting too much pressure on your business from day one. The likelihood is you will fail to hit the elevated targets, and every day you are drawn into increasing overheads to try reach that higher target. Year end result, you could reach 80% of the elevated turnover goal and be left tired with 150k profit.

I have released a podcast Housepainter on Nostr. See what happens..It's times like this I wish I had been born American! A nation of people who, if you put a microphone in their face, seem to have been media trained from birth.
At least I tick the box for a face for radio.
For my first how-to, I picked a small project I have going on, painting a galvanised steel door. Exciting stuff compared to 100k bitcoin.
There was a moment of doubt when mentioning how etch primers work to prepare a galvanized metal surface for priming. Is it mechanical, chemical, or as I hazarded, probably both?
Short answer - I can confirm Etching primers utilize both mechanical and chemical methods to prepare a substrate for better adhesion of subsequent coatings.
Longer explanation - Mechanical Action: Etching primers contain abrasive particles that help to create a rough surface on the substrate (usually metal). This rough texture increases the surface area for the subsequent layers of paint or primer to adhere to, enhancing mechanical bonding.
Chemical Action: Many etching primers also contain acids (like phosphoric acid) that chemically react with the metal surface. This reaction can help to remove oxidation and contaminants, further improving adhesion. The acid can also create a more suitable surface for the primer to bond to.
I got through that by the skin of my teeth!
A couple of examples of etching primers are Jota Etch from Jotun, a phosphoric acid based product

and Jenolite, a paint like primer in a spray can ideal for small areas and objects but not the most efficient or cost effective approach for flush doors.

Two points following on with the paint brand exposé, where I ran through the conglomerates that have taken over many of the industry's giants.
Firstly, market consolidation creates choice issues for consumers. There are dozens of etch primers on the market. PPG have their own range of etch primer for the US market. If you are in Peru, you will see PPG too. Crons are a top Peruvian brand selling etch primer. PPG with unlimited budgets own Crons. The Peruvian etch primer market is therefore set up in favour of PPG with consumers presented with a paradox of choice. Is anyone winning?
Not all companies are for sale however. Jotun and Jenolite are two examples of privately owned paint and coatings companies that control their full supply chain.
Jotun is a Norwegian manufacturer selling in 100 countries, turning over 31bn nok around $3bn annually.
Jenolite, a UK brand, was launched at the start of WW2 and are Europe's leaders in rust removal. A company that proves that "pick a niche and stick at it" was not a business tactic invented by blog marketing influencers!
And the follow up on my attempt to explain Nostr. I didn't do too bad, but to reinforce the points.
Nowadays it's like YouTube, Instagram or Facebook have become synonymous with "the internet" the open technology that enables them to function. Ironically they seem to have found ways to control the internet with their monopolistic gatekeeper strategies.
In a similar fashion, Nostr is the open technology behind an internet of communication. And because of its initial applications being social media apps, Nostr is glibly referred to as "social media". It is in fact the protocol that is designed from the ground up to support any new version of YouTube or Instagram without permitting them to become a walled garden with the ability to demand endless personal information to participate.
And the idea of suggesting newbies sign up at iris.to still seems to be the simplest way to dip your toes into a social media app done the Nostr way. With the profile completed on iris along with the public- private key combination, and awareness of event signers, users can get quite a long way without much help.
I didn't explain picking your own Nostr algorithms very well, using hashtags. I said photographs, I meant #photography # whatever you are interested in, to compile your own like-minded following.

Today I put together a simple podcast. The format is a practical how to section; a painting industry take and finish off with why Nostr. A few snips of music for intro outro chapter breaks.
Just lost power as I was exporting the file from Audacity so maybe that's a sign :)
Time to found out about RSS feeds and 2.0 software

First impression it's very bitcoin here. I joined Nostr using an onboard app with followers included and it's a tech tech tech group. But there seems to be a sort of a music scene which is encouraging.
I am interested in the creative side of life, art, photography. I'm going to try share my knowledge so I will find out if bitcoiners paint their homes or are they too busy stacking sats :)
