Hey fedi, it's finally time to move the mail for my own domains away from Google, and I narrowed it down to @nprofile…q4ju and @nprofile…nrrc and now I would like to hear some of your opinions on these.
My current thoughts:
Tuta keeps the mail encrypted on their server, while I don't think Mailbox does.
Mailbox has more features, although e-mail and calendaring are the only things I really need, and they both have that.
Mailbox lets you use normal mail clients, while Tuta requires app use because of the encryption.
Pricing is close enough that it's not a big factor.
They both sound like good options, but maybe people who have been with either for a longer time can chime in.
And before anybody says @nprofile…m7my, their CEO flirting with the US fascist party has made me unwilling to send money their way.

@nprofile…q3m3 Was listening to the weekly news podcast, and enjoyed it as usual, but you might want to look at Kagi's CEO and his attitude to many things. Including utter disrespect to things like GDPR compliance. This is a good place to start: https://d-shoot.net/kagi.html
Not saying that it's horrible that they might publish a browser for linux, but that the company culture doesn't really match its advertising. I personally stopped my trial with Kagi because of the link above.

@nprofile…s2gh I’m not sure if the democrats are amenable to that. Their leadership has resisted any pull to the left so hard that it could have been called suppression at best, and colliding with the republicans at worst.
I wish your system didn’t make third parties essentially a vote sink.
Again, wish to be proven wrong, but I’ve never seen a liberal party actually go left.

@nprofile…yhy4 Yep, it has also been super frustrating to see governments pay US corps for critical services, and when confronted about it they say that "nobody in Europe offers that service". While true, that's also ignoring that if the governments would actually pay Europeans for that service, it would both mean that Europe would now have that service, and it would inject money into Europe. So much of the US tech sector got bootstrapped by US military spending...

Had a really rough december, where I essentially just shut down, and locked myself in at home, not seeing any friends and just in general being very apathetic.
Anyway, long story short, I'm now on antidepressants for the first time in my life, and I am resuming the "fun" quest of finding a decent English speaking therapist in #Berlin again.
On a bit of a positive note, I did get some OK news that one of the causes might finally be resolving itself.

So, #Germany's biggest car maker, #Volkswagen is in crisis. This crisis is making them close 3 factories, and costing thousands of people their job. You might think that this crisis is caused by the diesel scandal that made their name a joke when people talked about testing, or about their resistance to EVs, or even just because of the general state of the economy right now.
And you're probably right, but the crisis turns out that they are making less profit. They are not actually losing money, not even close.
Thousands of people are losing their livelihoods because of this, because our current system can't allow a public company to just make a profit without growth.

Well, #BlueSky's #enshittification cycle is starting quite a bit earlier than I expected.
"We’re excited to announce that we’ve raised a $15 million Series A financing led by Blockchain Capital" (emphasis mine)
That they were going to look for financing went without saying and doesn't mean that it would get worse any time soon, but led by "Blockchain Capital" should be a red flag for anybody who has followed that area of tech.

@npub1mmf…eknq Most people are indeed pretty decent when away from the group, or even when in a pretty mixed group. I think that us all finding our echo chambers online, which have fulfilled that need for community, is one of the major reasons things are so polarised right now.
It used to be your community was defined by your location, which meant that it was mixed to at least a certain extent.
