I still have my old TP link travel router for road trips and it's great not having to connect every device to Wi-Fi at a hotel etc.
But this Asus version looks much more capable in comparison. Just having charging on the USB cable when drawing Internet access off your cell phone is a huge win!

I just had a wild night out in Melbourne. NOT my usual Saturday night :)
I ran into a nice couple practising some dance moves on the street this arvo. I asked them if I could make a timelapse of their routine. They invited me to come back and film a rehearsal with the full group.
So I hang out with the cool crowd now Steven. I won't forget you though, even though I haz street cred now ;)

Some days I lose sight of how lucky I am to even be alive.
I take for granted that I married my favourite person in the world. That I make a living with photography. That there are days when I get to welcome the sunshine at dawn, or snowfall in the evening. That I spend time with nice people and smart people, and sometimes both.
And that as a kid, everyone thought I'd never amount to anything. Not even me. It's important to surprise yourself.

The algorithm.
My Instagram still has over 30,000 followers. IG recently boasted to me that one of my posts "reached" 500 people. Someone thought this kind of notification might inspire me to post more often I guess? Really?
Instead, it underlines that out of 30,000 followers they'll only let a tiny tiny fraction actually see my posts. IG determines that most of my followers do not see my posts.

I posted this over a year ago. Just before I started my YouTube journey.
YouTube is great because it's where video belongs. It's a good space for deeper conversations and exploring an idea. It's not 500 characters or less.
It's problematic also, because of advertising. Ads invariably lead to some serious garbage trying to steal your attention.

"Content creators" is such an oxymoron.
Hints at the notion of art taking place, when really the only certainty is brand friendly product.
As someone who has spent too much of my life prostituting my talent to pay rent, I find it strange that anyone would wear this title as a badge of honour.

I personally love those moments when a discussion or post from 6 years back turns up again. Is that worth paying ten times the cost to maintain?
Likely not.
I think the issue of sustainability for instances in the fediverse is so important. If databases are scaling beyond the budgets of small communities then there needs to be some priority given to rethinking some of the core functionality in Mastodon code .
Can this be addressed at a design level?

Sharing pics here on Mastodon is so much more rewarding, as an artist and as an audience.
A photo can simply reach the right audience. No need for judgement. A photo exists because someone wanted it to. They shared it out of kindness.
I don't think this happens enough in camera clubs.

Being forced to stand in front of a club and give feedback on EVERY photo is just not something I look forward to. And if the feedback is honest, the club members won't be happy either.
It's such a different framework to how I share and teach in the real world. On my workshops we have depth in discussions and depth to sets of images and a chance for people find where they shine.
Clubs just score photos. It's a very blunt tool for developing talent.

Honestly so many pointless images in some of these club entries.
I just don't know where they're coming from. Why enter a photo in a comp if you didn't care enough about the image to bother editing it? Why waste everyone's time. If you don't like the topic then maybe don't enter?
Comps are such a terrible way to push people forward. Folks just wanna hear their photo is nice anyway. Or want to get points towards some other tally and IDK why bother.

Reviewing images for a camera club comp I agreed to judge.
Has put me in a bad mood. Feel like I agreed to something quite different. Club makes no distinction between composite artwork in photoshop versus actual photographs.
Hard enough giving feedback on images that are just not very good, but now added bonus of filtering through manipulated images.

That might be good advice. I got such a great deal on my little mini all those years ago and everything that seems very expensive! That's all inside my head of course. I do like the form factor of the mini for reading books too.
I'll have a tinker with the software you mentioned. I tried a few last night and getting a better idea of what my needs might be. Quickly capturing an idea is a little different to polishing a work of art.

I've lived my whole life with a speech impediment and even after 54 years of therapy, counselling, pushing back the boundaries and learning to rewire my brain... I have good days and bad days.
Colds or anything that disrupts breathing are big triggers for speech stumbles. Being super exhausted is difficult too. I have to work so fkn hard to keep any semblance of fluency, and the slightest bump can tip over the apple cart.
Biden works hard to keep on top of this.

Seconds later I got a cheeky glimpse of a Heliophorus (Sapphire).
I feel I've wasted my life when instead I could be sitting in a cow paddock at 2900m looking for little flappy blues.

One of those teeny tiny little butterflies that might be a sapphire or might not and my only reference for Bhutanese blues doesn't actually show the upper wings for most of the species.
I do love how every flash of blue fluttering by could be something totally new to my eyes.

When social media moved away from posting snapshots of moments, and pushed everyone to post video, something very fundamental changed.
Photos are passive. You walk through them at your own pace. You pause to contemplate an idea, or recall your own experience that connects to the photo.
Video in comparison will consume your attention. Especially edited video. Fast edits. Loud edits. No time to absorb. It's aggressive and dominating.

Morning light in the Himalayas. We're at about 4500m elevation, with crystal clear skies and not a cloud to be seen, not even clinging to Everest itself.
I love working with wide-open apertures. It helps when the scenery is this special though, can hardly take a bad photo here. This lake is just below Mount Chola.
