We usually talk about #foraging in the context of wild plants, not cultivated crops. But as I was walking back to the station I passed a field of field peas where someone had clipped the corner of the crop with a tractor or something, severing a lot of stems. These would never have been harvested, just left to rot so it would have been rude not to really.

Plants are inherently anti the zero-sum scarcity paradigm aren't they. If you give someone a cutting of your plant you still have a plant but now they have one too. They can grow it till they can give away cuttings and now more people have plants, and your plant is still there.

I pulled this lipstick plant out of a skip outside the vet over a decade ago when I was living in London - there were three of them but I could only carry one and a feisty cat in a carrier. It plodded along for years in various places I lived in the interim until I left it at my parents' house last year, and some magical combination of light and conditions there mean it's now thriving.

Like most of the Fediverse I laughed at the story of the woman who put a deliberate error in her medium article so men would share it to correct her, and so monetised mansplaining, but having overthought it a bit I now find it depressing. It's like those bewildering 5 minute craft videos, or the woman who made pasta by blending existing pasta and adding an egg (I believe the nation of Italy has now declared war on her)

The university where I work has one of those robot lawnmowers. Maybe a month or so ago someone stuck googly eyes on it. On my way in this morning I found it caught up on a tree root just off its regular path, and while lifting it off caught myself saying "Are you stuck old fellow? Let's sort you out." I now can't shake the feeling I was caught on some hidden camera and will end up in someone's psychology thesis on anthropomorphisation
