Dear Fedi,
I'm given to understand that there are quite a few trans folk on here, and that more than a handful of us are developers. I would appreciate some advice from that demographic...
I'm about to open source a (tiny, very niche) library that I started developing prior to my transition. Should I rewrite the git history to remove my deadname, or leave the change in commit author as it is?
I'm torn...

@npub1r4h…u0jf they exist! If memory serves they're just called "full-face helmets". The're generally a bit more streamlined/styled than motorbike helmets though.

Thank you to Mikaël Urankar for his tireless maintenance of numerous FreeBSD ports, including signal-desktop (for which he needs to maintain out-of-tree patches), and providing packages for those who can't build the port themselves.
He didn't need to do any of this, but he did.

It's a great piece of software. I can't imagine it not being available.

I feel slightly bad about my rant - I really do like FreeBSD, and I have been excited to use it, and I probably will end up building electron overnight so that I can have Signal Desktop (VS Code though? I'm not sure - I haven't yet found an IDE other than PyCharm that I like for Python).
If I didn't like FreeBSD or want it to grow so that more people could appreciate it, I wouldn't be frustrated - I'd just use Linux.
I guess it's time for me to see if I can help...

@npub1v6s…62n2 @npub1hgt…a4wl @npub1kmn…8cg8 Rewording something doesn't stop it being plagiarism. Otherwise changing just a couple of words from a source would be enough to mean that no citation was required.

@npub1kzk…k9tq What's your policy for hosting code that isn't currently open-source, but is working towards it?
I have some code I that I want to open-source, I'm actively working towards open-sourcing it (fixing bugs, writing more tests + docs etc.). However, I'm not in a position to release it right now as it contains code relating to unpublished research, which I'm working towards getting published.
