I think we need to reframe self driving. As much as I can't argue with the fact that automation will be better than humans at driving eventually, I think we really ought to ask if a future with self driving cars as our main mode of transport is one we want. And for me, that answer is no. I think cities will become less walkable, more car oriented and more dangerous for cyclists than they are now. I think there will be more cars on the road than now because instead of parking, your driverless car is supposed to go around making you money. Road noise will never end. And driverless car owners, companies will push to have dedicated roads with fences around them to prevent pedestrians from interfering with their tasks. It'll be sold under the guise of keeping us safe but its really about control. All that to say, more trains and fewer cars is the way.

So I added the delay and it didn't seem to change anything. Now it looks like the tests just don't expect that number of websocket messages which is why the CLOSED message appears in the next test. Now I want to understand, what is the difference between PASS, YES, NO and FAIL in the output of relay tester? I think I know but for some tests when the answer is Yes or No, it's hard to determine what the right outcome should be.

Negentropy should NEVER be mandatory. There is a whole usecase for relays as private communities where users do not want their notes to go anywhere but that specific relay and this NIP would just kill that use case. Its also very complex and makes building a simple relay more difficult. Optional NIP is the best option IMO.

This is non-negotiable in many corporate environments because of higher ups needing assurances that things are going according to plan. Not because taking this approach builds good software. Where I work, the higher ups are always asking for requirement specs and design documents and I sink so much god damn time writing these while the implementation is already being written. By the time I finish a draft of a doc, the implementation is out of sync with the spec and it needs to be updated creating more useless work. The higher ups truly believe that specs are driving the implementation while all the devs laugh (and cry) knowing our code drives the spec. And this isn't just a me problem. Even our most senior engineers know this and are constantly updating the specs and hate doing it. Because they know its not possible to think of every little thing before starting to code.
This is a garbage take by the kind of people who probably also believe having doctors, engineers, lawyers pass an exam and are certified means something. Its all performative, we're all hairless monkeys figuring it out.

My grand father passed away 8 years ago as of August. Not a day goes by when I don't think of him. He was the kind of man most of us work hard to be, but he just was. He was wise, caring and he didn't give a damn what people thought about him. Unapologetically himself. And he loved to make people laugh. He was the life of the party. Family get togethers just aren't the same without him. He taught me so much. He was also wicked smart. For a guy who didn't even finish high school and worked his whole life underground, he could fix or build you anything. Thanks for sharing. What kind of complex queries do you want? What kind of complex queries are out there in the wild right now?
IMO this is a large ask and complexity can become out of hand very quickly and all of a sudden implementing a relay includes and implementing an entire query language. Everyone is saying "let's use SQL". Which flavour of SQL? And then relays are locked into using only SQL databases of that flavour or writing some translation layer that can be riddled with bugs and security issues.
The simple query language lowers the attack surface and makes it easier and more flexible for relay operators. That doesn't mean we can't add complexity to the existing query language but let's be very careful here.

I don't agree. The difference is humans are capable of creating something new. Being inspired by previous works. Currently, AI isn't creating something new because it doesn't think, reason, doesn't have lived experience, etc. It is an algorithm which given some inputs (the prompt) is predicting what is the most likely combination of pixels to output based the training set. Its why you ask a model produce a cartoon crab underwater and it gives you something reminiscent of Mr. krabs from sponge Bob (since that was part of the training set). You ask a human to do this and you will get wildly different results based on the person and their lived experience.
One day when ai is better I'll agree, but right now its hardly ai to begin with and more a fancy curve fitting algorithm.
Not to mention this argument feels like it misses the point: as a creator it feels so shitty knowing you built something and shared it on some platform only for the platform to use it to make money of your work. It may also be illegal, though thats a different story altogether. I don't think any amount of "well acshually all art is stolen content" will change that.

NIP-01 is a little ambiguous around REQ messages. One part of the nip says "(...) a new `REQ` is sent using the same `<subscription_id>`, in which case relay MUST overwrite the previous subscription."
And the other part regarding CLOSED messages gives an example of one being sent when a REQ is received having the same subscription id.

I totally acknowledge and know that atmospheric CO2 levels and global temperatures have risen sharply in the past due to volcanism or asteroid impacts. And guess what? Those events coincide and correlate with mass extinction events. I am not making the claim that this is unprecedented, I'm saying it's concerning and why we don't generally include periods of time when the earth was warmer due to natural, slow cycles in the conversation about climate change because it's more comparable to other times in history when CO2 levels and temperatures rose sharply.

The first article you shared says this:

So although it has temporarily warmed the planet further, the major underlying cause is still because of the major excess of GHGs. So sure, maybe once all the water vapour cycles out of the stratosphere, global temperatures will cool slightly, but then again the amount of warming the water vapour may have caused is within the usual level of noise in the climate system. So even if we assume the last two winters are exceptionally mild because of the volcano, more winters like it are likely to come as the planet continues to warm.

CO2 levels should be a concern though since it's causing global average temperatures to rise too quickly.
The boreal forest in north america has evolved to expect significant snowfall over the winter which melts in the spring and feeds rivers, lakes and the soil keeping the forest moist. The last two winters have been absolutely mild with little snowfall. It's actually insane. I grew up in Northern Ontario where snow begins to fall/accumulate in early November and stays until late May. At the peak of winter we have 8ft snow banks. Snow mobile season usually lasts from early December to April. The last two years, its been a few weeks. There was so little in winter 2022 and so little rain in spring 2023 that we had major forest fires throughout northern Ontario and Quebec with smoke affecting daily life all the way to New York City! I know forest fires are normal but those very mild winters (that I have never seen in my life, nor has my father or his father) are causing forests to dry up which impacts so many things. And then warmer air means warmer oceans and that greatly affects ocean currents and marine life... You see where I'm going with this?

If I understand correctly, you want to make sure that whenever you generate a nonce for your ECDSA signatures, they should be as random as possible and should never be reused because it's simple to derive the secret key from the signature and the nonce.
I imagine that in both nostr and bitcoin, this is known and applications are designed with this in mind? Is ensuring random, non-reused nonces that hard to do?

Refresh token so you don't need to log in every 15 minutes (because session token should not be long lived). There isn't much trusting to do with the ID provider. You have to trust that the software works. It's like using the "login with Google" or "login with Facebook" buttons. They also use OIDC. In those cases, you have to trust them with your personal info. With this nostr ID provider, you hold the personal info on your device. We can maybe have some sort of encryption scheme between the nostr app and your phone app to make sure the info doesn't leak in transit. And tbh so far nostr apps have asked for your name, username, maybe an email. You can always enter fake or burner info in your device app so that nostr ID provider gets nothing. Its a very low trust system IMO.

What if we use OIDC. You're building your app and you want to allow nostr login. Your app uses OIDC via a nostr ID provider. This nostr ID provider connects with an app you have on your phone which is where your nsec is. Whenever you click "login with nostr" the nostr app uses OIDC and pings the nostr ID provider. Nostr ID provider then provides a NIP-97 auth URI back to the nostr app. Nostr app displays this URI as a QR code. Using the app on your phone, you scan this QR code. This will then prompt you to confirm you want to log into this site, and even what info you'd like to share with this site. All your personal info is stored only locally on device in the app and you could even create different profiles for different sites. Once you confirm, your app sends that in the form of NIP-97 auth message to nostr ID provider. Nostr ID provider then creates session token, refresh token and ID token and gives it back to nostr app. Voila you're logged in and you never had to enter your nsec anywhere.

I like to think I'm pretty smart. I've had a very hard time running my own LN node. Starting with raspibolt.org my node froze up without me noticing and all my channels were force closed.
Tried again with a small lenovo thinkstation, my ssd Mount didn't persist after restarts, didn't notice for almost a year, again channels are force closed.
I can hear the "skill issue" in the distance. But the truth is running a LN node is hard. Even without the sys admin problems, I never figured out who I should open channels to, how much in those channels to be a good peer on the network. Tbh, I just don't have the time or interest in running a routing node. I much prefer the LSP model.
