To clarify: I'm not making a moral judgement here. I'm just looking at the nature of how sacrifice works, and evaluating your effectiveness.
Of course, if you want a moral judgement, I could be very difficult.
On one hand, you have people who have to struggle to overcome themselves as well as doing all the work to make the thing happen. Then you have other people who don't have that handicap to overcome. Who's more admirable? :)

On the other hand, others may see/use it in a trans-inclusive way. And if they do, I have more important hills to die on.

Current physical status: left trapezius is one mishap from bailing out on me. Again.
This would be the one I landed on from about 20 feet up. The one with so much scar-tissue under it that you can hear me roll my shoulder backwards.
Putting that arm in a normal sling would be a bad idea, because it would stress the muscle further.
Apparently my arm needs to be bound behind my back, for therapeutic reasons. And I'm not even shitposting.

Everybody seems to be having a rough time right now, so here's a rough mix from this evening's session of Kat messing around with music gear.
It's just three minutes of the one mellow little groove, where each track was the first take that wasn't outright terrible. You never know, it might calm the mood. Or the the periodic fluffed notes might spoil it, who knows? It's just a sketch; YOLO.
New for me this evening: playing with faders, bringing one drum machine down while the guitar gets the foreground, then bringing it back up for its turn. A common technique, and 6-ish dB was probably too much, but it's the first time I've actually tried it with serious intent.
Why? Because I tried to EQ them out of each other's way, and that didn't work. Turns out it's fun getting into a rhythm with the faders.

The only (immediate) thing that the atomic bomb changed was that they could do with a single detonation what had previously taken an entire squadron to do with carpet-bombing.
Those were all civilian targets. including Tokyo.
He was right, though: Japan surrendered after Russia declared for the Allies, and none of those responsible were tried.

I still remember describing this to some little upstart that I was fencing with, in the late '90s. He asked what exactly a Spectrum was, then responded with "I was born in 1982!"

Definitely less, and it's because music is no longer the medium.
Rock'n'roll had its day, and light popular music before it, with the emphasis on the past tense.
As small children, my late-teenage niblings were baffled by music unaccompanied by video, and by photos that didn't move. What were LPs even for?
I suspect music was supplanted in large part by video games.
AFAICT it's Tik Tok right now, but next month it could be something you (and I) have never even heard of.
As one corollary, this could help explain the divided opinions about whether the music is the core of the Goth subculture. I now see how anybody younger than Gen X might be confused by the idea that music could be a cultural linchpin.

I'm a career Unix sysadmin; printers and I are natural enemies. I have configured lp0 on more Solaris systems than I'm willing to remember. I know the guy responsible for "lpt1 on fire" being removed from the Linux kernel, and why that message was there in the first place.
These things, though? I moved one from Sydney to Amsterdam, and it damn near made the leg to Madrid. It died in harness, after about 15 years. They work, and they keep on working. This second one will probably be buried with me, because it's still working and nobody can figure out what else to do with the thing.

A supportive partner is a wonderful thing.
Yesterday, I looked at myself in the mirror: T-shirt, mini-skirt and tights, and thought "you're not 20 any more. Maybe don't try to get away with dressing that way."
Carried on wearing it anyway.
Asked my partner whether I looked to them like mutton dressed as lamb.
Got a lecture about women using that phrase to tear each other down, followed by the affirmation that it's our house, and I should damned well wear whatever makes me happy and comfortable.
This morning I got a follow-up: "you didn't get to be a girl, so it only makes sense that you're filling in for it now."

Eventually one of them was elsewhere at a crucial moment, and the other invited a senior exec to take a walk around the building. They were on the 4th floor at the time, and it did not end well for the short-tempered one.

Where unshielded electronics are recorded, mains hum will be there. Deal with enough of it and you'll instantly recognise those pitches.

AFAICT, a common reason people do this is that they're insecure and acting out. They feel that they should be improving themself, know that they could, but don't bother.
Then somebody close to them starts putting in the work, then keeps on putting in the work, and now they feel even worse about themself. "You're showing me up. Think you're better than me, don't you?"
Rather than use that as a spur to get off their own ass and do what's necessary to get where they want to go, they try to resolve the conflict by making the external source of discomfort go away - by stopping the other person from improving themself.
Now I think about it, when I studied law a very long time ago, we went over a case where this was explicitly the motivation. Short version: old driver retired, new driver consistently outperformed him, and the other drivers tried to bully him into not making their old mate look bad. And it got ugly.

Not sure what age you are, but as a teenage boy I loved it. We all did.
Just don't watch the sequels; they sucked. Or the remake; it was perfectly competent, but neutered the spirit of the original and lacked its spark.
