Regarding:

That is part of it, I think.
But, (in addition to that) I suspect typical people want influencers.
But (big) influencers tend to make a living from their influencing activities. And if people don't want ads, then at the very least payments need to be in place (to get them to come here and stay here).
(I.e., the Fediverse would need payments to be part of the protocol.)

Yes. In the activity-JSON there is a field called "publicKeyPem".

And, yes, you don't hold it yourself. It is a delegated-key.
...
Part of what could address this is supporting keys that users hold themselves (in addition to the delegated-key).

I noticed that some people on lens-protocol (decentralized social-media network) call it "open social".
Why that is relevant is — I have seen some try to use "open social" as an alternative name for the 'Fediverse'. But it "open social") seems to already be in use elsewhere.

I pre-ordered a Framework laptop from @npub15f7…m7wr
My 1½ year old daughter broke my previous laptop.
I thought the Framework laptops were interesting, as —
• they are designed so that you can repair them and upgrade them, and
• they are modular, meaning you can easily swap out parts.
It is actually a pretty cool design.
And, Framework laptops support Linux — which is important to me, as I have been using Linux since the year 1996, and am very used to it.

I can't speak for JD, but I have talked to others who are either more into Farcaster or more into nostr (rather than the Fediverse), and I've talked to them about the Fediverse.
I have noticed some commonalities in what they said —
№1:
They believe that a significant part of the Fediverse is anti-commece.
They feel that commerce and payments are important.
№2:
They don't trust the servers controlling their identity and presence.
They feel it should be independent from any server.

Once you do that, the inactive button (near the bottom of the screen) that previously said 'Scroll to continue' will become active and say 'Next'.

I have seen Threads users on the Fediverse — but I noticed that when I tried looking up many people, they didn't show up.
Later, I saw mention of Threads users having to enable Fediverse.
