Something weird about myself that I keep learning the hard way is that for some weird reason, my brain does not click with an one-tool-for-everything approach.
I love Obsidian & I love it for knowledge management. But for some reason, I cannot write in it. There’s no meaningful difference between writing in iA Writer & Obsidian, but forcing myself to write in Obsidian causes so much resistance I just don’t write. I also had to move research back into MindNode. (1/2)

It is (un-)surprisingly difficult to get back into the groove of producing videos after almost 3 months and with gargantuan piles of obligations at work, FOSS, and RL.

Here’s 2.0.0 of my still semi-experimental setup-cached-uv!
It now does the obvious ways to cache-bust by default, so for the 99%, using it should be just a matter of `- uses: hynek/setup-cached-uv@v2`.
I’m still interested in feedback, especially whether caching the blazingly fast™ uv even makes sense on GHA where downloading packages can be faster than restoring a cache. :| Except for saving PSF resources, of course. 👼

uv just dropped a CI-optimized cache purge and while implementing it I’ve realized that build-and-inspect-python-package didn’t actually store the cache dir (anymore?) due to path restrictions. Here’s a new release that fixes and improves cache handling.
Given how fast uv and slow actions/cache are, this is mostly about reducing the load on PyPI.

A frustrating part of bylaw #3 discussion is that a larger part of the discussion wasn’t about the bylaw, but a relitigation of whether the Python community should have an enforced CoC and whether it should be cool to call women sluts because there was a hilarious SNL skit in the 1970s.
It feels like it should be obvious, but again for those in the back: if you want a community to grow, the behavioral standards and expectations regress to the biggest common denominator. (1/8)

The most frustrating part of the #PyConUS mask discussion to me is how it’s 100% focused on “your discomfort” vs “other ppl’s health”.
The MAJOR exclusionary nature of masks is inverted, tho! Of course are there ppl who don’t want to wear one for comfort or can’t for medical reasons. But the majority I talked to would be happy to wear one but wished if OTHERS didn’t wear one, so they could understand them (better, or at all). (1/4)

Things I’ve been thinking about a lot lately:
- code design pressure (good: testability, bad: coupling business code with validation and/or storage – interestingly there’s been a #PyCascades talk about just that, framed using an obscure German mathematician)
- type state pattern, or: why I don't use state machines. This has nothing to do with static types but a continuation of “make illegal state unrepresentable”. Practically, this means that you’ll rarely see an `| None` in my class fields.

@npub1pfe…e2dm Everything. Installer finishes, ScanSnap Home starts, asks for notifications privileges, but has no window. The toolbar icon has everything greyed out. No way to add a scanner. SSH can only be force quit. Tried reinstalling 3x.
This might be the sadly all too common case, where if you managed to set it up 5 years ago, you’re OK but if you want to set it up today you’re SOL. Which opens the question: are you using SSH or the old, deprecated one that will stop working by EOY?

As I’m preparing to send back the ScanSnap iX100 because its software is trash that doesn’t work and wrecked havoc on my Mac – any paperless nerds that can recommend a scanner for quick and easy A4 scans? I’m currently using my phone with MS Lens (and Prizmo before) but I don’t quite like the scans come out and I don’t enjoy the ceremony of detecting edges etc.
