It seems similar to "Legends" in #Warhammer40k, i.e. there will be official-inofficial datasheets for a while, but they will quickly become unbalanced, not follow bigger rule changes and thus become unusable—unless you play by older rules entirely, which you also don't want because one of the players likely has a new team that didn't have rules before.

I actually think they could go with fairly stable rules (and for free), and instead create hype around... miniatures!
No, really. Even accepting they want to maximise profits, they don't have to do it via rules/codices. They could do
• more thematic box sets
• limited edition minis that just look different but don't require rule changes
• special add-ons/gear
• ...
Every collector would still buy.

I always use Wahapedia!
The killer feature they have for Killteam is mouse-over tooltips on special words like *rending*.

I am quite excited about it, as well!
Although I do wish they would put out new editions less frequently.
Since I only play a few times per year, I feel like the rules have always changed notably 😐
Conversely, I would appreciate stuff being removed from the game instead of adding new things. I have never played any of the more complicated missions, used Tac Ops or Equipment. The many individual operative sheets and abilities are plenty to keep track of, IMHO 😅
