These have been derided by many environmentalists as ineffective with no viable substitutes. It is too easy to point the finger at researchers, where the real issues are structural, with weak international governance (the COP), poor instruments (such as subsidies), along with myopic political figures. The first step toward effective climate policies would be to devise an effective international governance structure such as the one that has been described as a climate club. You are fucking kidding me.
It's not enough to "be anti-sexism and anti-racism." You must declare that, BUT, you must also test your actions against reality to see if your actions match your intentions. Harris was afforded the opportunity to test his actions against his intentions years ago and decided that his intentions are enough, and that he could ignore the testimony of those affected by his actions.
I just provided you with evidence that he is sexist and racist. It should not be shocking that, with racism and sexism being unpopular, racists and sexists often deny their proclivities in public.
If you are OK with racism and sexism but find preemptive nuclear strike advocacy to be a dealbreaker, then fuck you. It's some old Bill Maher episodes, if you really care, but your remarks here are hinting to me that you don't give a fuck.

The fact that Sam Harris still has cachet in the science communications community speaks poorly of that community's ability to communicate with marginalized peoples. Sam Harris is sexist and has explicitly endorsed and argued for racist policies such as racial profiling of all people who "look Muslim" (he includes himself in this, which does not, contra him, make it OK) as well as preemptive nuclear strikes against Muslim countries.

My only point was the Democrats aren't going to stop fascism. I mean, yes, it would be cool if Trump doesn't win the election, but even if he doesn't, fascism is already here. And fully stopping it will require a revolution in either case. It will just be slightly less difficult if Biden wins.
I live in NYS so by the numbers my presidential vote is pretty irrelevant too.

Critics call the EPA's good neighbor rule "ineffective" but without this principle of regulating interstate pollution, the northeast would never have solved its acid rain problem.
I'm old enough to remember going hiking in the Adirondacks and seeing dead and dying trees and lifeless lakes due to acid rain, which was formed from pollution byproducts emitted from factories in Ohio, Illinois, and other midwestern states.

Patrick Braxton, the first legally elected mayor of Newbern, AL (established 160 years ago), and, not coincidentally, the first Black mayor, has settled with Haywood "Woody" Stokes III, the former mayor and White Man™ who led the unconstitutional effort to deprive Braxton and his appointed city councilors of access to the city's buildings, bank accounts, and postal box. Stokes inherited the office of mayor from his father, and the minority white population of Newbern (1 hour away from Selma) has been running Newbern like their own personal kingdom since its inception.

Since people are talking about Kent State, Ohio, 1970, it's a good time to talk about Jackson State, Mississippi, 1970.
Similar situation, except there was no active protest, just a bunch of students hanging out. The mayor of Jackson declared a riot and called in the pigs. Someone threw a glass bottle, not at the pigs, but they still opened fire. Phillip Gibbs, a student at Jackson State, and James Green, a high school student who was walking home from his job, were murdered by cops. Many others were wounded.

It's been 10 years since Flint's water crisis started--all because some white supremacist GOP politicians wanted to (or claimed to want to, given the predictable outcome, it's a safer bet that the damage to the Black community was their real goal) save money on water infrastructure. Legal victories have been won and money set aside for compensation to those injured, but Flint's Black residents mostly haven't seen a dime. And they still pay more for their water than most other city residents in the USA, still suffer health impacts from lead poisoning, and are still witnessing the economic hollowing out of their community.
