2) This is an option. I use Mizuma https://www.freshports.org/games/mizuma/ which uses the Wine Steam. I also have the Linux Steam installed but find it's more reliable to use the Wine version. Steam crashes a lot when downloading games, most of my games work.
4) 99% of your Steam library will work.

Video game technology has been going backwards the past few years and I don't know if I have the heart to tell you that we used to be able to load our games instantaneously without compiling 10 minutes of shaders and that we could run our games at full resolutions without some sort of AI fakery to make more frames per second.
