2) This is an option. I use Mizuma https://www.freshports.org/games/mizuma/ which uses the Wine Steam. I also have the Linux Steam installed but find it's more reliable to use the Wine version. Steam crashes a lot when downloading games, most of my games work.
4) 99% of your Steam library will work.
