Labour have a massive majority in the Commons, winning 411 seats out of the total of 650. Today Labour MPs must decide whether to vote for removal of cold weather payments which Labour research has shown will kill pensioners. A vote for this policy or an abstention will not save their lives. Recently a friend on artist residency recommended a book The Zen of Creativity by John Daido Loori. Am not at all religious or spiritual and am quite outspoken and am politically angry so was surprised at how interesting this was. One section mentions the still point - only the now exists, don't worry about the past or what is to come, forget those who annoy you or the politics of the day. Instead try to listen without analysing what we hear. Very interesting read if anyone interested.

@npub1g0t…tvm4 The UK feels broken. Starmer has continued Blair's legacy and pushed Labour further and further to the right where it can compete with Tories for same part of electorate. How many are left behind with nobody speaking on our behalf? And what of people who want proportional representation or to rejoin the EU or to see the UK break into smaller and more democratic states? I get feeling that the Tories and Labour supported by the press speak to a smaller and smaller part of the public.

Polling in the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election seem to show that Labour are not persuading SNP voters but instead are picking up the Tory vote. Says much about Labour and the Tories and rubbishes ideas from Labour activists who get all upset when people ask what are the differences between the Tories and Labour. It seems, in Scotland at least, the public share this idea that the parties are interchangeable.

In theory, the press play a vital role in democracy. Their job supposedly to shine a light into the dark and hold the rich and powerful to account.
In real life, the press seem happy to report one side of a story, to cover up inconvenient truths and when necessary to lie. They don't see that their job is to add value to our lives.
Does this explain why many people have lost trust in the press and why those who work in the press get no respect? Is investigative journalism a lost craft?

Neoliberalism has utterly failed. In the UK, its fanatics pushed through a budget contained £36bn of tax cuts hailed by supporters as, "a true Tory budget". The budget cost UK economy upwards of £30billion and many saw their pension funds on the verge of collapse and requiring emergency intervention.
Truss lasted 44 days as Prime Minster. Her Chancellor Kwarteng was sacked after 38 days.
What did we expect allowing the elites to run an economic system for their own benefit?

I grew up when we had many nationalised industries such as the railways, electricity, water and sewage, the post, telephones and many many more. We had a functioning NHS to be proud of and a huge stock of council housing.
Other than those with vast wealth, how have all these sales made any of our lives better?
If you still think the biggest political parties care about what is best for ordinary people, give yourself a shake.
