In 1913, the creation of the Federal Reserve was a cause of heated political debate.
Robert Owen was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking and Currency, and co-sponsored the legislation creating the Federal Reserve.
Joseph Talbert was the VP of National City Bank of New York (now Citibank).
Talbert objected to the creation of the Fed, on several grounds, including that the Fed members would be “mere politicians…political appointees”

Written by one of the most senior politicians pushing to create the Federal Reserve in 1913, Robert Owen.
In it he argues in favor of the Central Bank, and answers objections from one of the most powerful private bankers at the time, Joseph Talbert.

#Bitcoin builders would be well served by remembering why bitcoin found such early, strong product market fit with poker players (and for other illicit uses).
Talk to many of these people today, and they’ll say “I didn’t understand #bitcoin at the time…I didn’t know what I was holding”
And yet, they ‘adopted’ it, because it solved a big problem for them. It was a painkiller.
Bitcoin has come a long way since. Surely there are many more cohorts who have big problems to solve - that can be solved with the world’s only an open, permissionless monetary network, which settles instantly and finally.
We don’t need to educate such people about the value of #bitcoin, other than to the extent it helps them solve these problems. In fact, anything else is a distraction.

One thing I’m excited to see evolve is relay differentiation
It’s inevitable different relays will permit different content
This will allow for a free market of relay stack customization, and vastly different feed experiences (that are truly chosen and not foisted on you by a black box algo)
And because you can see anyone else’s feed with their npub, this means you can see the world through anyone’s eyes
See the feed of your most hated political enemy, or a celebrity you idolize, or an estranged sibling.
This can help break the wheel of algo-driven polarization. Way easier to reach echo-chamber escape velocity

Took me many years to get past ego lifting and start focusing on time under tension, concentric and eccentric phases, form, etc.
So much better both for muscle gain and injury prevention

One of the beautiful parts of pre-platform internet was the thrill of the hunt, and payoff, of finding deep-buried files, obscure esoteric texts, and just generally weird Easter eggs everywhere
Wandering into some super niche forum, and digging into some sub-niche of that, and stumbling into a years-long bitter flame war between two insane brilliant pseudonymous subject matter experts
One time when I was like thirteen I downloaded a bootleg remix of a Biggie Smalls track on Kazaa, lost it, and was NEVER able to find it again

Why’s interesting is that previous ‘pro free-speech’ platforms (Gab, Parler etc) were completely captured by people who just went there to say the naughty stuff that got you banned on Twitter
AND then ironically couldn’t even support free speech due being centrally owned and controlled
Nostr on the other hand is both an *actual* protocol for free speech, *and* has managed to avoid being culturally dominated by people who want to exploit that freedom performatively. At least, so far.
