If you deliberately misgender someone and think it is okay because you don't like them, or because they hurt you, or any other reason:

I don't know why this is hard for people.

If you see this and you are in the person's trusted orbit and you _don't_ call it out or call them in (even privately) that is also transphobia.
Having trans friends or trans people who agree with you does not obviate this in any way, shape, or form.
It is dehumanizing.

Such accounts will not limit themselves to spamming threads, you do realize this, yes?
We'll be drowning in spam and threads's servers won't be the ones that suffer the brunt of it, everyone else will.

We need finer grained controls than what are provided today by #mastodon for #blocklists
For instance, what if the tooling allowed individuals or instances to say:
* "Only allow direct messages from this instance from people who are followed or where there is explicit consent to receive a direct message"
* "Automatically hide all content (under something like what's called a CW today) from this server unless there's explicit permission to show it from the user"
* "Block replies to this post"

I can agree with the implementation, but think the context around how it is being used or proposed to be used does not address the problem (or causes unintended consequences).
It's hard to have these conversations when a bunch of racism and transmisogyny are being thrown around, however.

Yes. They are. So are all of the other places you shop. Even the ones with good leftist marketing. If they aren't then the people they buy from aren't.
You live in a capitalist dystopia. You cannot keep yourself morally pure even if such a thing were valuable.

@npub1u27…3qfq Most reasonably competent developers (including students in school) can write an HTTP server that you can reach with your average curl call. It may not be the fastest thing in the world, it may not support all of the various extensions and encodings, but it will _work_.
You can read https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2616.txt and turn that into functional code. There are some weird corners, but mostly things will work.
With ActivityPub there's a good chance I can't talk to anyone.

Putting some of my thoughts here with respect to #haidra and #nivenly, which I may formalize later into questions for the discussion:
1. Would Haidra be willing to commit to zero use or advertising of models/workers that are trained on data sourced from copyrighted material that does not include the holder's permission, irrespective of legal fair use qualifiers? (ACM 1.6, 2.8).
2. Has an analysis been done on the environmental impact of #AiHorde? What would this look like? (ACM 1.1, 1.2)

It doesn't prevent a thousand death threats, it doesn't prevent one death threat. It doesn't keep you from seeing BBC articles or news. It doesn't keep anyone you know from following BBC articles or news.
Instead, a lot of people seem intent on sharing a lot of transphobic things to convince people to diminish adults agency. Which if your goal is to reduce the amount of transphobia trans people see is… a choice.

One of my objections to thinking of people like #[0] as "TERFs" is because they aren't really even… feminists, in a lot of cases.
I don't mean in the sense that "TERFs are neither radical nor feminist," I mean in the sense that "she doesn't subscribe to radfem ideology, but she also doesn't really subscribe to other more modern feminist ideologies either."
Her model is rooted in _at best_ some generic second wave feminism in the abstract, but really not even that in practice.
