Just spent the last half an hour with Jake as he took apart his XBox one to clean it, put on new thermal paste and he showed me all parts of the motherboard, the interconnects between parts and actually, reminded me of my dad when he'd do exactly the same thing when I was younger. Now the son shows the dad things instead. I learn a lot with him and I absolutely love it.

Installed Ableton Live, got an unwanted system tray icon for Push control. Found an article online to remove it. One line in powershell runs the uninstaller and it's gone, as it should be. Nasty marketing practice, that. No option during install *not* to have it.

Does anyone happen to know whether #Audient ever unshittified their app? They made such a big deal about their control panel being accessible, then it turned to crap with one single update. It's usable, but not as good as it once was. I purchased my Evo4 solely on the recommendation of others that the control panel was accessible, that they'd had chats with Audient and that they actually cared about #accessibility... Not so much from where I'm standing.

Yes, #Mastodon supports #HCaptcha, but HCaptcha mines details of some of us with disabilities by asking us to sign up with an email address to, as they put it, 'get an accessibility cookie.' If you use that service, it is a bad time for many. HCaptcha is not my friend.

There's some alert about privacy that comes up whenever I go over certain emails in #Thunderbird, and as I'm using it today for the first time, I'd be grateful for any help getting rid of the thing. Apple care is the shiz! Jake had a problem with his airpods where only one side worked properly, went to the store today for a walk-in appointment, got seen within two hours, walked out with a brand-new set. Hate being that person. Really I do. It just so happens that I lost one of my larger patrons recently ($30) and at the same time, Linode put their pricing up. Server bill went from $69 to $81/mo, so the timing just kinda hurts.

Ever heard a Steel Pan Orchestra? Here's one rehearsing in a place called The Tabernacle, back in November of 2017. My dad is teaching a group of players part of a track he wants them to learn, and this was captured using some Cad M179 microhpones tattached to a Jecklin disk, paird with an OlympusLS-100 recorder. Funny enough, I just gave my dad the Olympus today, as I wasn't using it and it's been sitting around for about the last 3 years. Hope he can make better use of it than I've been doing.

A tip that I suspect most #NVDA users will already know or do anyway, but when I've connected to a remote computer and want to reconnect to the server without doing anything complex, I just hit NVDA Control F3 and it reloads plugins, which of course includes reloading the remote connection, so the machine you're on can be controlled again.
Forgot to do this last night before bed, so had to come down to fix that, so I could type from upstairs.

When I'm feeling a particular emotion, I tend to sit down and play some music to allow me to express it.
On this day six years ago (8 Aug 2017) my mum passed away very suddenly.
I'm alright, by the way. Not perfect of course, but I'm OK. Time has dulled the pain, but will never heal it altogether of course.
Anyway, I sat down this morning and just hit record, and let my fingers do the talking. This is my melancholy in music.
I miss my mum every day.

Had a call with a company earlier using #Zoom, told them about the new terms, and they were immediately unhappy. As this call involved beta software well, you can probably see why they were mad. Methinks zoom will not only face huge backlash about this, but may be sued for any number of things in the coming months. I've just discovered some kind of tinnitus in my right ear over the last few days, so that's just lovely... It's only if I cover it up then I hear it. In day-to-day I don't.

Quicknav (Left/Right Arrow) + Single Key Quicknav (VO+Q) makes single letters work on web pages for what that's worth. It's the *only* way that browsing with VO is anywhere near human, an not like practicing for a contortionist contest for thumb gymnastics.

Anyone work at, or knows someone that works at #Monzo? Seems the only way to get hold of them these days is via a forum, but, nope... I'm a blind customer and I have some glaring issues to report about the #iOS app, which would require screen-sharing my accounts. I'm not up for the world knowing about my business like that, but these issues affect #VoiceOver in some serious ways and it's easier to show than it is to explain.

My daughter's school is retrofitting a lift into the building. It's very difficult work and it's probably going to be ugly as a result. This is what happens when you later try to build #accessibility into your product after it's been built and is in the wild. Don't do it this way if you can help it. Accessibility isn't just for Christmas, it should be forever. From day 0.
Add the lift to your building from the start. Add accessibility to your product from the start. Do this, and your bolt-on actions won't come back to bite you at a later date, nor will they likely be ugly as sin.

Have been handed an old HP Pavilion G6 laptop with a massive 4GB RAM and spinning 500 GB spinning rust. Still, I can repurpose it into running Onj's TV again, which has been missing from my lineup for the last few years, so happy.

99% of Aaron David's posts are images without alt-text. He's said that 'he posts too many to be able to tag them' so he just doesn't.
When I see those boosted, it always feels like such a letdown.
Since he doesn't put any text into the post at all, just an image without any text, it's as if it were a post with 0 content for a #ScreenReader user. Like being handed a piece of paper with something cool on it, but you can't see it, thus you can't read it without jumping through hoops at any rate. Or perhaps in return if I handed you a piece of #braille paper with the most profound text on it and expected you to be able to understand it, assuming you're sighted and cannot read braille.
Your lives, do them your way, but I very gently wish people wouldn't share such things. It's not at all inclusive.

@npub1683…f0qg I was always, always told 'never put warm things in the fridge!' Just never been a thing. Rice for example, 'would make you have food poison and you don't want that, do you?' Honestly I never researched if that was true or not, I just... Never did it. Was scared into not doing so.
