* HammerFS -> Matthew Dillon
I guess other filesystems created at larger companies (JFS -> IBM, XFS -> SGI) also had a single mastermind, we just don’t see that.
Today I see Dave Chinner as the main “brain” driving/maintaining XFS.

@npub12fn…v63r Have you read the blog post, esp. the chapter on URL multiplexing and client authentication via HTTP CONNECT request. For me SSH3 seems to be better protected than the current SSH. Also, you can run SSH3 on other ports than 443 (same as you can run SSH2 on other Ports than 22).

While “home.arpa” could be used as a private internal domain name, it is originally created for the HOME-NET protocols (and for home networks).

I've written a (quick and dirty) CHIP-8 Assembler for the A8

* it's currently underdocumented
* it uses it's own memnonics (postfix notation)
* not well tested (but it assembles the three test source files contained in the repo)
* only CHIP-8 commands for now (no SCHIP-8 or other extensions - planned for a later version)
* should be restarted (reloaded) after one assembly run (it does not reset)

@npub1v0e…y5lr @npub1jw5…9fry I have a 2nd (spare) of these machines, and that one is still on Debian 12. I will report the bug and help fixing it (if there is interest).
But I have the feeling that X11 on Linux is degrading. The whole i386 support is degrading as well. For the future, NetBSD seem to be more promising for these machines (I still run Debian on a couple of other machines).

Just started sponsoring #NetBSD.
I have a small little (old) netbook with VIA VX800 GPU.
It had been running #Debian for 14 years. The openchrome driver for this machine broke in Debian 12 (segfault). I don’t blame the the Debian team, it seems that Linux is moving away from X11 towards Wayland, which is sensible for new machines.
But I like to keep this old machine running, it does its job well at 800x480px. NetBSD 9.2 works fine out-of-the-box. And it runs #emacs fast enough.

I still see the issue. All SOA serials are the same on all auth name server, with the TTL rather high, it does not look like a migration in progress.

Question: what DNS resolver implementation is FortiGate using on their firewall products.
Is it a “well known” open source DNS resolver (unbound, BIND 9 etc), or something different?
Any experience how “up-to-date” (in regards of RFC standards compliance and new standards) the Fortunate DNS resolver function is?

With DNSSEC and global forwarding enabled, a Windows Server DNS resolver seems to sometimes (on higher query loads) ignore the “forward-only” configuration and starts resolving DS- and DNSKEY-records directly (without forwarding).
This breaks DNSSEC validation in cases where a firewall only allows DNS communication between the Windows DNS resolver and the Forwarding-Server. Seen on Windows 2016 / 2019.
Does anyone confirm this issue? Is it an implementation bug?

@npub17fg…56vf When I wrote my 1st Forth for the Atari 8bit, my motivation was to have a Forth that can work with “normal” Atari DOS files, not with Block-Disks. That was 25 years ago, and since then I’ve learned to love “screens” for editing source code. Ulli Hoffman of Forth Gesellschaft once created a Forth source file format that is both a normal textile and a block file, using CTRL+L (Form-Feed) as the block divider marker.

@npub1asv…cm2v What does “1 cells .” print out? Is it “1”? That might be an error in this Forth, unless it is a token threaded forth, where “cells” might be 1 byte (token) only.

The code in the tutorial looks correct.
But not all Forth systems are equal or standards compliant.
Your Forth might have a non-standard implementation of “cells”. What Forth are you using?

@npub17fg…56vf The VolksForth Git-Repo (https://github.com/forth-ev/VolksForth) does have tools (in the “tools” directory) to convert between “block” and “stream” files. You can use these tools to convert a Forth “Block” Disk-Image to a text file, and then back into a Disk-Image file. There are also (unix) scripts to convert from and to ATASCII.

@npub17fg…56vf Yes, should work, also GNU/Forth on PC/Mac supports screen files, as well as many other Forth systems. It should work with pure Atari Disk-Images (XFD), but not with ATR files, as ATR files have a header that will shift all data by a few bytes.

Wir benutzen Emacs mit Decide-Mode, Chat mittels jabber.el (XMPP) auch im Emacs. Die Spieler verbinden sich per SSH und TMUX. Das klappt nicht nur mit IT-Nerds.
Ich habe beim CCC mal einen Vortrag zum Thema gehalten (ich war an dem Tag gesundheitlich sehr angeschlagen, daher ist es nicht der beste Vortrag)

I view the restriction of the Gemini file format as a good feature. See the past discussions on the Gemini list. Markdown invites extensions, and extensions lead to the Web we already have. Gemini is simple on purpose.
But if you want to serve Markdown text, the Caddy Webserver (https://caddyserver.com/) can render markdown files “in-the-fly” into simple HTML.
