Even though I still love Bethesda's games (having been a fan since Morrowind), this is absolutely ridiculous. I didn't even mind Creation Club, since it was official content and had to meet some requirements (thus it was usually pretty decent content overall).
But no. Paid mods are not acceptable to me. Like this guy says, modding used to be a community hobby. A way to make fun content for games we love, keeping it alive for many years.

For the first time in my life, I actually fully beat the original #Mario. Full disclosure, I did use warp zones with a save state at the beginning of each zone, but still: I've never gotten beyond world 5 before today.

I know I need to fix the aspect ratio but I found a Genesis game that I loved as a kid but totally forgot about: Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin. I used to play the crap out of this game and I just happened to download a ROM of it as part of my return to Genesis games.

You know something that bugs me about the modern console market?
Back in the day, #Sega had fun names for their consoles. Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast.
When Sony and Microsoft entered, "PlayStation" and "Xbox". Both fun, "gamey" names.
Now, it's just Playstation [number] and Xbox Series [letter]. Even modern handhelds have boring names like "ROG Ally", "Legion Go", etc. No creativity or fun.
Only Nintendo still seems to care about having FUN names for their consoles: GameCube, Wii, Switch.

So, quick update on my Retro-Bit Genesis controller: I love the thing, but I can't seem to get it to function properly.
The buttons seem to be all scrambled, no matter what I try. I tried the Start+B combo that they recommend in the box, I've played around with Steam Input settings, I even tried remapping controls in #RetroArch but still: the buttons are scrambled. A and B are switched around, C is Y and so forth.
Did I get a faulty controller or can someone else suggest things to try?

As phenomenal as #Sonic Mania is, the Metallic Madness zone suuuucks. The level gimmicks are really cool and creative but it's one of those ones like Metropolis Zone in Sonic 2 which just drives you nuts when you play it.

I feel like the RG community needs to do a once-a-month gaming session together. We already have a lot of retro streamers here but it'd be awesome to be able to play retro games together. I'm not sure how that'd be set up from a technical perspective, at least not on certain games that don't have online multiplayer by default, but it'd be an interesting experiment to try!

I wasn't planning on a big, modern game purchase this year, but... hear me out.
Not even a full $60, which is a win considering all the $70 games now.
The only thing I'm not keen on is the fact that it uses Denuvo. I might grab it after launch but I want to see how Denuvo impacts the game before I buy. Nonetheless, I want Square Enix to know that us PC gamers would like these games on day one.

What are some old franchises that have remained consistent in quality up until the modern era?
An example that comes to mind for me is the Civilization series. Even the newest ones are still very solid 4X games, even if some long-time players aren't a fan of some changes across the games. I've got my fingers crossed that Civ7 will continue this trend, though knowing the modern industry, I'm nervous having that kind of hope.

Is it just me or was the Wii version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed a million times better than the other seventh generation version? Better levels, better storytelling and the motion controls meant there was some basic, immersive interactivity.
I'd also say the DS version is up there as well, given what they pulled off with that game.

I had a dream that I was digging around in a container and found my old GBA, GB Micro, DS Lite and all of the games for them.
I still have all those but I have no idea where I put them and it's driving me crazy. I'm dying to go back and play them and I don't want to just emulate them.

I've had this game for a little while but haven't had a chance to play it until now. It really reminds me of a modern version of Streets of Rage, honestly. Not the greatest controls but still fun once you get the hang of it!

One thing I like about some of the marketing material for this game is that sometimes it's labeled as "Andrew Gower's Brighter Shores". This evokes a similar feel to how known game designers would sometimes attach their names to their games, a la Sid Meier.
It just further shows how this game will very likely scratch a nostalgic itch while also bringing some major refinements.

Before the version of RuneScape many people think of even existed, there was RuneScape Classic... man, 2018 was a CRAP year for Jagex. I feel like that was about the time that I started losing faith in them, with the last year causing me to bottom out completely and basically quit.
I miss this game. Classic was VERY rough around the edges but it had such character that even RuneScape 2 (now called Old School RuneScape) didn't have. #MMO #retro #RuneScape

One thing I've noticed since beginning my #retro journey is that I play a lot of games in different genres now. I give more games a chance. Before, you'd usually see me only ever playing western RPGs, especially ones like the Elder Scrolls or modern Fallout.
Now, I not only play JRPGs but you'll catch me playing games of many genres now. That's majorly because retro games had such variety and exploring the games of the past has inspired me to play more varied games of the present.

Is it just me or does Virtua Fighter's combat feel very slow/sluggish compared to Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter? I get that they wanted a more kinetic style of combat but it feels so slow and not nearly as responsive, especially compared to the first three Mortal Kombat games. #retro #arcade

Many people seem to say that the Gamecube had a poor reputation back in the day but I remember differently.
It was THE console to have when I was a kid. Nobody cared about the PS2 or Xbox as much as they cared about the Gamecube. Everyone was talking about Gamecube exclusive games, about the controller, about the overall design.
I distinctly remember nothing but positivity about it. Maybe my community was different but yeah, everyone seemed to love it.
