I received both of these today. It seems my GP surgery has reinstituted a requirement for face coverings (I can't recall quite when they dropped it, but it has been quite some time since I saw any of the staff wearing one, though the nurses generally ask if I want them to wear one when they see my N95.)

I grew up in a household where alcohol and other forms of abuse were a daily occurrence, so I can empathise.
I hope you have found the means to heal. If you're anything like me, the scars remain but I try hard not to be defined by my childhood.

It requires taking a lot on trust Anthony, and I'm not sure I can in light of some of the things he's done.
I agree they're engaged in a fine balancing act when the media is so blatantly against #Labour.

I'm so sorry for the generations that haven't lived through better times. I'm aware of how lucky I am. I've had a mortgage since I was 18 - no parental help. Imagine that nowadays. Sad, sad times...

What puzzles me William, is that the mother reinforces it.
I have so many memories of mine making comments such as "But why aren't you home making dinner?"
Or better yet, on learning of my promotion,
"Our X should have that job"
'X' being my youngest brother.
I would do anything for my daughter. I can't understand my mother continually promoting the patriarchy, in addition to seeming to feel she was in competition with me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It was the same with the chores. They were divided between my sister and I. Our two brothers weren't expected to do anything.
One brother went on to do as much of the domestics if not more than his partner, once he had his own home.
My mother thought the sun shone out of my my youngest brother. The least said the better there.
Hah! That sounds bitter. I'm not. We siblings just accepted that's the way it was...

I only intended to convey that mine was not an evangelical family. Though my sister and I were forced to attend church (minimum of 3 times a day on Sundays). Same rule didn't apply to our brothers. I think my mother saw it as a form of contraception!

Mine was very much 'spare the rod and spoil the child'. Or perhaps they were just particularly bad tempered.
I can remember initially thinking "Well, it never did me any harm" which was nonsense. Something I told myself to self-soothe? Eventually turned it round to "Did it do me any good?" And of course, it didn't...
I remember the pain of the feeling of injustice.
