It's criminal that the US doesn't have the same concern for those outside the vehicle than Europe does.
I've always thought of myself as a Democrat and always voted Blue (and I will in the future if Red has a chance of winning), but boy, oh boy, I am really hating the previous (and hanging on) D leaders for not being so very different from the R leaders when it comes standing up for the little guys.

The future is definitely hard to see, but it's not really necessary to be specific about what one is saving for. While "saving for retirement" has tax advantages at the moment, just amassing some amount of "savings" creates a resource that could be used for retirement or more art or an emergency relocation or whatever. Putting a little away each month in a separate account of some sort where it's out your everyday view is not that hard (if you can spare the money).

When a manufacturing plant near me closed recently and 1,500 workers lost their jobs is was seen a cataclysmic. DC Metro is bigger, but how many newly unemployed can its economy sustain? #Madness

So, yeah. I tried it on a browser. Lots of hashtag republican content, nothing for hashtag democrat. If you search without the hashtag on "democrat" you get content, but most of it is from Newsmax (which is to the right of Fox News) talking about how corrupt the democrats are.
So there seem to be legitimacy to this.

I haven’t followed this closely, but I mostly hear the data privacy argument, not the manipulation argument. In either case it’s only because the Chinese are involved in doing it, not because it’s being done. Good old fashioned, home-grown manipulation and data intrusion are fine.

I'm sure they make sense, but the corner stores (and even big grocery stores) doesn't sell MREs and while I'm sure they're easy to find online but if they're not on your mind you're never going to search them out.
I also believe that a significant portion of the population has really rudimentary skills as far as feeding themself at the best of times. Cereal, junk food, frozen food, take out.
Urban populations aren't used to thinking of nature as a threat.

In the Blizzard in Buffalo that killed so many people several\who died had ventured out of their homes to buy things they needed (diapers, baby formula, food). In the aftermath there were a lot of recommendations to stock up, but also push back because many don't have the money to keep a weeks worth of food on hand for their whole family. (Or not the kind of food they want.)
And you're right that many people lack the skills/mindset to deal with existential threats.

But I’m not a tech person. Is that not true? Have I been keeping my keys in a tin box for years for nothing?

I am still relatively new to the Fediverse. I'm very with it, but there's one thing I've noticed re:boosts.
I now follow several people who regularly boost posts from people I already follow, so I may see the post when it's first posted, then see it again two or three times when it's boosted by others. Is there some setting to adjust to avoid that, or do I just bask in the fact that I'm part of a pod of like-minded folk?

Look at the whole RWDS self-identify. Or maybe calling them that is just validating for them in that context.
