@nprofile…spxs ChatGPT is popular right now, and has historic user growth for sure. (400mil WAU is mind-blowing!)
But I still think specific, small-scale, task-oriented AI will be the long-term value of these systems.
Chatbots are a novelty, and I use ChatGPT and Gemini daily, but I don’t see Google having a “Gemini” app in five years, it will just be part of all the things you do on your device.
I still haven’t figured out OpenAI’s business model, unless you count “burning VC money by the heat of a million GPUs” a strategy.

@nprofile…spxs I know the popular opinion these days is that Apple is “two years behind” on AI, but I think they’re doing it the right way. Using AI to make specific things easier, faster, or better is more approachable than generative chatbots.
I think AI is like Dropbox. A great feature and set of integrations for most people (assistive and agentic AI, image manipulation, translation, etc.), but also a full-on standalone service for those who need the extra power (gen AI, chatbots)

AI is moving so fast and changing so drastically I was afraid a book written even several months ago would be outdated.

The math isn’t mathing. Does that mean 16% of iPhone users are unsatisfied with a thing they haven’t tried yet?
If 73% of users have actually used it, that’s actually pretty good. Over a billion users.

@nprofile…66kr I solved all my CPU problems by closing the graphs.
Turns out, CPUs are freakin fast and the percentage in use is a worthless number. Activity Monitor regularly shows multiple processes at over 100%, which is obviously impossible.
The only time I worry about CPU usage is if there is a noticeable slowdown, which is a very rare occurrence and usually the fault of Microsoft Teams or some Adobe product.

Is there a non-Safari browser that anyone can recommend?
I have to access Confluence and JIRA. Confluence tables are basically un-editable in Safari on visionOS for some reason. Arrow keys don't work, and the cells are too small to reliably use look-and-pinch.

@npub1qw5…037m @npub1fzy…pkz4 I’d love to see a _temporary_ moratorium on all single-family homes being bought for rental investments. Big rental companies snatching up multiple houses in a neighborhood drives up taxes and prices for everyone.
Enforce it through the tax code: if you rent a property within 24 months of buying it, all rental income is taxed at 90%. That would certainly cut down on investors outbidding people who want to live there.

Had a conversation with a coworker yesterday about the #VisionPro. They didn't think it was worth $3500.
I then asked how much they, as a hobbyist photographer, spent on camera gear last year.
(spoiler: it was more than $3500)
Everyone has a hobby they like to spend money on. Don't yuk people's yums.

I love my Jeep, but the aftermarket accessory choices are a fucking trip.
It’s tough to find decent stuff without some right-wing faux-patriot bullshit like bullets or American flag stripes all over it. There’s even a company that makes a flag out of bullets.

AppleOne is a pretty good service. It’s getting expensive, but still a good deal. I’d like to see more integration, though.
Yesterday, I was doing a rowing workout in Fitness+. Today, I’m humming a song that I heard during that workout that stuck in my head.
I can dig through the Fitness app, go to that workout in my history, and find the tracks, but wouldn’t it be better if Apple Music had a playlist to “see music from recent workouts” or something?

I’ve been using Macs since the early 2000’s and consider myself a power user.
And today I learned, quite by accident, that ⌘⇧. (Command-Shift-Period) toggles the visibility of hidden files. A thing I do all the time.
I've had the AppleScript for this command tied to a #KeyboardMaestro macro for like 15 years. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cook with avocado oil, y'all. Almost no taste, 500º smoke point, and a healthy fat profile.
Olive oil is a garnish, not a cooking oil.

Feature request to @npub1svs…p66u (my favorite) and all the other Mastodon clients: Allow “select text on image” when adding Alt Text to image attachments. It would speed things up dramatically and create more accurate accessibility text.

#[0] I’ve always wanted the Siri face to just be a complication. Let me have one Siri “block” telling me whatever would be at the top of Siri face, then room for a couple more complications. Would be ideal for me.
