My first startup was Moz. I was there 17 years, and it defined my career and personal identity. Then it all fell apart, at least for me.
In 2021, Moz sold to a private equity buyer. I signed an aggressive noncompete and NDA. Parts of that have finally lifted, so I'm writing what I wish I could have written at the time, and what I hope will be valuable to other startup founders and teams.

@npub15l7…aang They said at launch that they penalize links (and generally bias to native content), but maybe that's changed? I'd be surprised though. Facebook as an org is so vehemently anti-link, it'd be weird.

I love Mastodon; just wish ~3X as many folks in my world were active here. It's a real pain going to Twitter & Threads to cross-post (especially Threads given it's mobile-only and I prefer to do social on bigger screens).
But, marketing on behalf of Mastodon is weird. I'm shocked how many say "I tried it but couldn't figure out the signup process," and even when I tell them it's easier now, they shrug and reply that "it's not worth it." This mentality is pervasive, but completely foreign to me.

At Shopify, we have a management track and a crafter track. What this means is you don’t need to manage more people to get promoted and make more money."

It's weird how none of the companies, bosses, or articles promoting "return to work" cite an experiment methodology or actual stats on how #remote employees perform vs. #inoffice
