Am I missing something? In my understanding a passport will allow you to visit other countries. But not to stay in other countries. For that you need (where available) the right kind of visa, or the right to reside, and that is highly variable.
If you can prove you have been or are at risk of being persecuted by the laws in your own jurisdiction you may be able to ask for asylum. Difficult and expensive to prove, and very risky. Unlikely anyone applying to country in Europe for asylum from USA would receive anything other than a giggle by way of reply. “But you come from The Land of the Free….😂😂😂😂????”

It's a maxim that "you get what you measure." Why are governments fixated on Gross Domestic Product, which looks at nothing but money? Hopeless for people and hopeless for our survival.
The 2019 experiment in New Zealand to look for new measures for the Govt to aim at, instead of Gross Domestic Product, was heartening. I'm not sure it survived. But there's space in that ground to get involved and work for more sensible and sensitive measures.

Does/did it make a difference that when we were securing our first mortgage in 1982 the default and the expectation were that mortgages were repayment mortgages — whereas suddenly, (say) eight to ten years later, the interest-only mortgage was being pushed (and taken on) almost everywhere?
