It helps for grid congestion. There are multiple challenges in the energy transition. The seasonal issue is separate from the daily fluctuations, the latter will be very much diminished once four to eight hour battery backup becomes normal. The seasonal issue will have regional solutions and requires a regional energy mix that fits the regional seasonal changes.

Interesting data point: China is now requiring new solar farms to install battery capacity to the tune of 10% of their maximum output.
