Helping out with maintenance and landscaping on a mostly forested lot and I find myself wondering about things that are hard to dig up online, like: if you have to move a rotting pile of ex-firewood, what can you do with it to maximize its ecosystem benefits? Literally just pile it on a bare patch of ground? Could we use it to improve the ecological value of the stream that passes through?
It'd be quite some time before we consider making any raised beds or hugel mounds.

I didn't expect the #degrowth tag to have such a high proportion of posts arguing against it. Or more often, taking potshots at straw-man versions. So here's a small corrective.
Capitalist growth will doom even its beneficiaries to a hostile future. We need degrowth at every scale, as soon as possible, by any means necessary. Use adblock, become a quiet quitter, eat less meat, sabotage a golf course, learn to compost. We owe this – and much more – to future generations of the living world.

One, that paying for soil and fertilizer from stores really adds up over time
Two, the less food waste in our garbage bin, the fewer visits we get from the local bears, and the fewer times I have to clean up after them looting the bin!

i just found an old page of notes i took about Jesse Jackson's platform in the 1988 democratic presidential primary. it would still be a strong left-Dem platform today in many ways - he wanted to re-create the WPA, he pushed single-payer healthcare and DC statehood.
one of the reasons he lost the primary is that 1988 was the first year that the Democratic Leadership Conference was active, trying to fight the influence of the '60s left.

@npub1pdv…gqz2 depends but yeah, pretty normal. The idea is that you and the artist can finalize it in person together. A good artist will have already done some work, maybe multiple drafts for something big and custom, and it's more like having a proof ready for you to look over. And of course they have to consider how it will look *on your body* too.
There's also a strong expectation of starting from trust in asking someone to permanently mark your body because you like how their other work looks.
