This is the 6th year since the passing of the most amazing person I have ever known. She was smart, empathetic, wise, nurturing, beautiful, and a blessing to everyone who knew her. I can hardly believe I had the good fortune to be Melissa’s husband. I miss her every day but fell her presence everywhere.

My late wife did not learn from her mom but became a terrific cook and baker on her own. One of the many ways she nourished friends, family and the homeless at the shelter where she volunteered.

I’m sorry you faced so many obstacles. I know my ethnicity has been an unfair advantage for me in many ways. I tried to balance that as best I could by supporting career ladder programs in my work life. Some of the top people I ever worked with got their promotions that way without having a college education. And it is obvious that you are very intelligent and well informed person despite those obstacles.

I was lucky enough to get a lot of formal education, jump-started by my English teacher single mom. I was able to get scholarships to help pay for it since we didn’t have a lot. But I have also learned that wisdom and character are not guaranteed by academic experience and there are many equally valid paths to them.

I actually don't mind the gray. One of my favorite things is to be out in a boat on the ocean when it's foggy and the sea and water all seem the same. It's like floating carefree in a cloud. (Of course, this presupposes having good navigation tools onboard so one can find one's way home). But here's some color for you.

I have the good fortune to have fairly new in-laws through my grandson who are the opposite. I just returned from dinner at their place. They have embraced my grandson as one of the family and made my daughter, myself and my other grandson feel that way too.

I met my late wife at work too. We were both new managers in a very dysfunctional office and bonded over our efforts to bring order to the chaos. That bond only intensified over time and became a life long love.

This reminds me of a pet with the opposite attitude. We finished moving into our house and started looking around for our white cat. We knew she had come in the car with us but could not find her anywhere. After an hour and a half of worry, a soot gray creatjure dropped down out of the chimney into the fireplace. (thankfully unused).
