There's a debate to be had about the utility of the Toubon law but it's effectively a dead letter in regular life. French people say le weekend, but in Quebec they say fin de semaine.
France is by far not the only country with such laws, the British just go ape over it. Icelandic & Norwegian both reuse and invent words rather than import them.

@npub1cme…w4rh I switched from RCN this month because their "promo" rate had been $50/month for 200MBs that increased to $80 last year. Haggled down to $60 for 300MBs last year and then they got sued so I got a rebate for a few months.
Then last month they dropped the promo and it was $80 and the threat of it being $110 if I got the new "deal". So I switched to Comcast. In 2 years I'll probably switch back.

Not sure I'd always describe it as a high standard. Sweden partially split the market by making people get continued renewed short term contracts and long term contracts, the latter available more widely in the state/municipal sectors.
Every economy on the planet, including the other Nordics, recognize that people will need training and development to advance, and pay accordingly. Sweden intentionally hobbles people who aren't "perfect". Or "perfectly Swedish".

You'd have to change a lot of the labor market infrastructure to provide easier access to new arrivals, which people on the inside, like those on long term labor contracts, see as a threat. Wage differentials to start as people learn the work is standard everywhere but Sweden has issues. Also the racism is an abiding feature of the labor market...

The economic arguments against aren't ever about that but the left in Sweden had been using it for decades before it became the watchword of the right. Sweden said they didn't have arbetskraftsinvandring for decades but it was obvious this wasn't true, but also didn't make as much effort at getting people into productive work.
Some people may be upset but most people want to work and participate and contribute.

@npub1hpc…hjn3 it still takes WAY TOO LONG for people arriving to get jobs and that issue is a problem with Swedes and their "issues" with refusing to accept non-Swedish education or provide pathways for equivalency training and assessment. Underemployment is inefficient and cruel.
Much of the system is awful for people stuck in limbo. It's inhumane. The labor market architecture is terrible, and openly discriminatory.
