Regular advertising is annoying enough, but with browser hijacking and tracking cookies/spyware masquerading as advertisements, it can be outright dangerous. Practice safe browsing, people.

Are you talking about the site having an issue with third-party tracking cookies (or the presence of Facebook's cookies on unrelated sites)? Or is a comment on the content found on Facebook itself, i.e. being a breeding ground for misinformation?

@nprofile…es7k I'm not in the UK, but I've seen similar age-verification legislation being discussed where I live.
For whatever my opinion is worth: I can understand the reasoning behind wanting to protect minors from adult content. Porn can have a long-lasting impact on a developing mind, and what used to only be available in select real-world locations is now streamed freely to any Internet-connected device.
This legislation's intention is probably to create a digital analogue for being age-checked at adult movie/toy stores in the real world. How exactly that gets implemented in a way that's effective, however, is the challenge. Technology tends to advance faster than the laws that regulate it. And I certainly have concern about those legislators who use moral outrage as an excuse to push legislation that places restrictions on vaguely related (or even unrelated) things that they simply don't like.

@nprofile…vdjy I've done virtually nothing with web coding since HTML 4.0 and Microsoft FrontPage in the early 2000's. So while I may not understand the particulars of the coding in question, I can appreciate the ridiculousness of the criticism.
Basically, some unknown person showed up in your inbox unannounced and delivered bad-faith criticism of you and/or your work (which sounds like a troll to me), but apparently was too lazy to research the work manually and so used their "nifty" little AI tool to do the work. And the whole thing is just a set-up for an AI sales pitch.
I know that ethics is basically persona non grata in business (and especially in sales) but I can't imagine any salesperson reaching success by cold-calling and insulting prospective customers.

I suspect that it's one of those things that is over-reported, i.e. it probably is happening but not nearly at the percentages people think it's happening. Sort of like age-old parental fears of teenagers having sex, unprotected or otherwise.

@npub1vg4…2yt8 I chose "dragon" for myself because I knew I did not want to be a common canid species (wolf, dog, fox). I thought that dragons were less common, and I later found out this was not the case. Still, as time has gone on and I've learned more about myself (including feedback from others), the more I'm convinced I made the right decision.
Basically, serendipity is what drew me to dragons.

This is why I'm firm about only being staff at one con. Even though I could probably get on staff at all the cons I attend, I don't want conventions to become nothing but work for me.

@npub1zes…03qs My guess is that freshwater, compared to other water sources like saltwater or mineral water, has lower amounts of dissolved solids which can foul up coolant lines.
As for closed loop, I'm not an HVAC specialist, but if one is using water to capture and discharge waste heat, it's certainly simpler to just keep using new (ambient temperature) water rather than put the water through some lengthy heat-exchange process to cool it back down to ambient. It's probably more cost-effective too.

While I'm not a developer myself, it's disheartening to see applications using ever more RAM and CPU without an appreciable increase in performance or quality. It makes computers obsolete faster than they need to be.
