Enjoyed the first eight episodes of #SkullIsland on #Netflix. Some great #kaiju storytelling with likes or human characters as well. The humor is sometimes a bit much, while also adding the light gore, I expected a bit more serious dialog. It’s a bit of a #Marvel induced problem.

Instead of cars, more people should just drive electric #scooters (#mopeds) when traveling in/between cities. Saves a lot of space compared to cars.
Now if my municipality (#Nieuwegein) and surrounding cities would lower the speed of 70 km/h roads to 50, it would greatly allow more flexibility in routes.

So far thoroughly enjoying my game time with #DiabloIV. I picked the rogue class, an unusual choice for me, as is normally go for barbarian or druid.
Graphics, music, the overall world building and gameplay are top notch polished stuff.
The story is interesting enough that you want to continue to advance, but I’m pleasantly surprised by the length of some of the side quests as well. Remember to talk to people to get all the lore of the world.

What I do like with #Bluesky:
• Text based search (some #Mastodon instances have it, and coming officially?)
• You can browse all users that someone follows (will need to check if this works with multiple instances)
• Custom algorithms as feeds that you can pick!
• Some communities are well represented (including comics)
• Big new features appearing in relatively quick succession

Currently my biggest gripes with #Bluesky:
• No hashtags (not always is a sentence filled with relevant keywords)
• App feels clunky (scrolling, copy text, translate, posting content, no timeline marker) compared to native apps
• Still no gif and video support (I often hear #Mastodon needs to improve the latter as well?)
• No media tab, no likes tab
• Hard to follow specific topics, without hashtags, and search results are limited
• Huge gaps in the communities (some have a stronger presence)

At this point we celebrate anyone who can replace #Twitter. I’m interested in #Project92, even with all the bad things being from #Meta. It sure looks likes the #Instagram comment threads.
I feel like #Bluesky has lost a bit of its momentum/hype. A lot of people are still in a wait and see mode before posting.
It might become an interesting challenge for #Mastodon and others to deal with Project 92’s #ActivityPub integration (or see if they just start blocking).

In 2015 the first wolf entered the Netherlands. For more than a hundred years there were no wolves due to hunting them all down. But in 2019 the first cubs were born here and since then we’ve had multiple packs staying and growing.
Wildlife is rebalancing, not just other animals, but also plant life.
It’s the best thing that has happened to our local nature in the last decade.

Like the first book, the sequel has an excellent artistic cover. The second book continues the story of our favorite #wolf pack, but from the perspective of other characters.
If you don’t know the series yet, the first book is a definite recommendation. It stars a #gay couple of alpha guys and werewolf drama.

After spending multiple days with #ReactNative, #TypeScript (or #JavaScript) still makes my Swift eyes bleed and my compiler heart ache.
I feel that I really miss out on IDE and compiler feedback to write code faster (and less error prone), while also greatly assisting with debugging any issues.
I think I would always prefer other languages over this. Even the Java-like #Dart from #Flutter. I think coding twice in #Kotlin and #Swift would probably be faster for me 😅

The Legend of #Zelda #TearsOfTheKingdom certainly oozes with Monolith’s technology, the graphics are sharper, yet with a wider view of the world, cinematic and character animations have improved.

In my opinion #Mammoth could be a great inspiration of giving it a bit more familiar #Twitter like UI, while keeping #Mastodon features in tact. Mainly the timeline, compose window (and trigger), notifications and messages.
In general displaying of threading should be improved though, as well as more accessible bookmarks etc. In Mammoth it’s all hidden under the “...” button on profile, which is not very elegant, and I think even less nice than the official app.

They way it displays messages, well the best way to describe it, it appears like #Instagram or #Tumblr. On one hand it’s nice for images I guess, but because there is a lot of text, it feels too spacious compared to other #Mastodon apps when scrolling through my timeline.

Playing around a bit, the official #Mastodon app for #iOS is getting better. It doesn’t feel as slick as #Mammoth, #Woolly or #Ivory yet. Especially things like settings, notifications (don’t expand likes), profile (bookmarks, etc. at the top), or federated tabs could use some love.
The new icon set is overal nice, but the compose icon is now like the rest of the tab bar, which feels odd, tapping it accidentally opens the compose window which doesn’t allow you to switch to the others anymore.

I know #Mastodon is very anti-algorithm. On the complete opposite #Bluesky is all about finding the right algorithm.
A first step was made yesterday when they published the first source code examples of a custom algorithm. In-app support for this will be part of a new app release in the coming weeks.
I think this opens up a new market of possibilities. There will be a lot of crap, but there can be potential feeds that truly help explore interests etc.

@npub1q0r…6sad I think the main selling point for me is account portability. It’s something Mastodon should really look into. The ability to easily move between instances without loss of data, or being at the mercy of two instances to get it to happen is too fragile. Setting up your own instance is not an option for most of us.
Another is discoverability, search, full follow list, as well as being able to pick algorithms that suit you (separate form your chronological timeline) to discover new posts.

Japanese magazine CGWORLD, volume 298, has a big article on the CG used in the anime basketball movie 『THE FIRST SLAM DUNK』
Some really impressive work, it feels different from other CG productions due to the distinct style choices. It’s not like the manga, but unique in its own way nonetheless.

Good to see some nice improvements in the area of alt-text, especially a reminder if you forgot. Other changes are also welcome tweaks and polishing.

If you respond to it, it feels like they went on lunch, a short vacation, and your comments have been printed and put at the bottom of a staple. 😅

#[0] #[1] it’s not a design flow when a large portion of the customizable compostable moderation is missing. It’s unfinished software yes.
The sentiment on the Bluesky is that it’s unfortunate it happened, and acted on (but not ideal). But also the understanding why it’s been closed and invite only.
People here only press on that it’s evidence they were right that the other platform is inherently bad. As if it’s a threat, rather than giving it a chance to stand up.

But I think they handled it well given the situation, Bluesky acted when they noticed. It went well for a relative long time and in a few weeks when everything lands we’ll see how customizable composable moderation really works out.

#[0] #[1] feels like you’re twisting my words. I believe people are overreacting of what happened on another platform during a closed beta period.
On Bluesky people didn’t tolerate a nazi on the platform, but the tools for moderation aren’t finished yet, some portions of auto labeling have landed. It’s also the reason why they are hesitant to open up.
With this in mind yes it sucks it happened. But in the future, in weeks probably, it will be different when users have control.

A closed beta, invite only, people that are well aware of the current limitations. They fundamentally did think about the principles of composed moderation, bring theory to practice, code and policy is not an easy and quick thing. It’s also a question of balancing priority and measured risk.
Consider this, nearly 40K users and people here are stressing one incident.

The increasing popularity of #[0] has uncovered the amount of people here who themselves thrive on controversy and purposely staying economical with information.
I think it’s good people are having a critical eye towards a new player. But when people want to score points by creating controversy of a closed beta, and leaving out information of its ongoing development, that’s not okay.
I feel #[1] is considered a threat to some hardcore #[2] users here and are lashing out.

#[0] for me it’s account portability. The way #[1] (and others) are currently designed leaves too much in the hands of instance admins. We’ve seen instances disappear, and potential misuse lures around the corner as well. Account portability gives more control and freedom over your social media data.
I too hope the new interest, and competition, wakes up people and causes long awaited wishes to be realized both for Mastodon and #[2].

#[0] I don’t think #[1] and the #[2] will be perfect. I’m hopeful they will address the intended goals and core issues that #[3] and #[4] have.
But for everything there is a price. I think #[5] makes a bit more of a balance between #[6] and Mastodon’s spartan approach. Including algorithms, search, where it’s usefulness for discoverability will also have a another side of the coin.
In the end the user decides though, as long as it’s well informed.

There seems to be a growing amount of uninformed, negative posts on #[0] about #[1].
It’s unfortunate that a platform which believes is populated by open minded people do not gather information themselves to form a balanced opinion, but rather jump on the “echo chamber” bandwagon instead.
Kind of reminds me of behavioral patterns on #[2]. Remember it’s not the platform, but what you bring with you that matters.

#[0] the first thing to do when you write something that might put somebody in a bad light is to be well informed.
This topic has already been discussed on #[1], the intent was that they could show promotional images, like in the App Store, without getting into problems.
The CEO of Bluesky, Jay, herself responded and also welcomed further input to revise portions of the text.
It’s okay to be sharp on things, but make sure you do it with a honest intentions.

In my hometown it was decided some years back to hire a sheep herder who travels around with his sheep to various locations in town, throughout the year.
The use of sheep has several advantages:
• People enjoy seeing them, plenty of parents with kids pass by
• They eat Japanese knotweed, an invasive, very damaging weed to infrastructure and local plant life
• The land itself is damaged much less by sheep than heavy machines, much of the ground is soft fertile soil

#[0] I think HiDive is one of the last anime-only competitors, but they mostly have left-over series, which can be a hit or miss. I was looking at subscribing again, but was shocked the iOS app hasn’t been updated in over 2 years.
I guess having Netflix and Disney+/Hulu adding anime to their services might help as some competition a little bit.

A personal data repository can decide that they don’t want to host your data, eg. due to being illegal (like countries where LGBTQIA+ still is unacceptable). Which means you have to move to another PDR.
Your data won’t be lost though, due to account portability, and you can move to another PDR with different rules.
However reach is determined on another level. In those same countries, when using the AppViewer layer there, content will be filtered out, while other AppViewers won’t.

Basically Bluesky separates speech and reach.
Your personal data repository holds all your posts, likes, media, follows, etc.
Reach is determined the the compossible, customizable moderation. Which by itself is multi-layered. Based on server admin (auto or manually labeled), third party plugins for moderation, your own preferences for content moderation.

On #[0] and #[1] I’ve always reserved likes/favorites as a form of bookmarking posts. I know there is also a separate functionality for this, but it was a way to have two lists.
I think I’ll revise my behavior and use it freely on any post I like. I’ve already tested it a bit on #[2] and I guess it makes more sense to appreciate posts even if not retweeting/boosting it.

Really not a fan of the current run of the Amazing Spider-Man (2022). It seems the writer is completely out of touch what people enjoy when reading #[0] #[1]. It’s not just the relationship with MJ, but the dreadful, pretty much losing every battle, no witty remarks, etc. I don’t think the writer can redeem himself at this point.

I don’t think they need to invest in AcitivtyPub.
Dramatically changing an existing standard is hard. Sometimes standards have a completely breaking 2.0. They are free to create a new protocol, that addresses concerns they believe are not possible with the current standard.
My insight would be that in times like this multiple protocols arrive, addressing simile and other concerns, in different ways. And potentially later see converging protocols.
What is ActivityPub doing?

#[0] many of the limitations people have with #[1], or the underlying #[2], haven’t been addressed in years. I read very old blogs already pointing it out.
My best bet a new standard comes along that could be adopted, with the necessary work. I do see a lot of opposition against any new protocol, without trying to understand the need (of progress).
I believe Mastodon and ActivityPub are far from perfect, and we should blindly praise it. But that’s just me.

#[0] yeah #[1] removes the high dependency #[2] has on instances, and their admins and moderators. Mastodon feels pretty much like a #[3] or Internet forum to be honest.
The divide they made at Bluesky, to give ownership of your data back to you is conceptually just better. Others can filter out, but not control you. So there can’t be an instance dispute about moderation, or instances being nuked along with your online presence.
