Thank you for your continued patience. We are working diligently to recover connectivity. In the meantime, we can confirm that all our servers, including backups are intact—no data loss has occurred, the entire share log is secure, and no payments from the network were affected.
This was caused by a series of calamities, all Acts of God, interfering with several redundencies of fiber and satellite communications at multiple locations—not malicious actors or sabotage. It bears reminding, however, that any time communications to the Bitcoin network are lost, then the pool is not mining and we are not finding blocks. Please ensure your own backups and redundancies are in place accordingly.
We will continue to provide updates when available.

At 9am:
Due to the hurricane, our main servers and several redundancies were adversely affected by the storms. This is causing a widespread, but expectedly short-lived outage on OCEAN.
While this is our first outage on the pool of any kind, outages, however small or short, are unacceptable. Without revealing the details of our security profile, the chances of this happening were astronomically low, but non-zero. Even that is too high, so we will work to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.
Please ensure your own backups and redundancies are in place accordingly. We’ll have further updates when we have more information.

OCEAN reaches 56% of unique miners receiving newly generated coins.
Our latest block paid out 50 unique Bitcoin addresses from the coinbase, meaning 50 people received bitcoins directly from Bitcoin itself, not from a middle man.

All this is to say, if your over the difficulty target set required for the proofs submitted, it doesn't matter if you're just over it or way way over it to the point where you were just one bit flip away from solving an actual block - it's all one share :)

The last part of what I wrote was confusing.
Say the S21 working at default difficulty is finding millions of times more shares than the bitaxe, the pool then adjusts making the difficulty orders of magnitude higher. Shares will then start coming in far slower and each one will be multiplied by the same factor that the difficulty was increased.
This is why all shares in pool stats are equal.

Shares aren't that. They're just proof that you did some work, that is just solving a block at an arbitrary difficulty.
You aren't given more shares for getting "closer" to the correct answer, but if you're given a higher difficulty target (appropriate for more powerful machines) then your shares will be worth more than other shares. BUT pools will always normalize this on the website/stats so you don't have to do any adjustment.
So you're kind of right but that's only of concern to the pool back end.
In reality a bitaxe share and a S21 Pro share are going to be worth the same, it's just that the S21 will be finding them way faster, be given a higher difficulty target by the pool, then return fewer shares that are worth more than previously. So if you double the difficulty you send to a worker, each share it submits will be worth two shares.

As of today, OCEAN miners can attach a BOLT12 offer to their #Bitcoin address and get paid out over Lightning!
BOLT12 offers allow us to request multiple invoices for any amount while only requiring the miner to set things up once.
Miners simply sign a message containing the offer using the private key associated with their Bitcoin address.
Using BOLT12 also allows us to prove to the world that a payment was made, the size of the payment, the node to which it was paid, and that it was paid by us.
This means we can continue to offer fully transparent and verifiable pooled mining while no longer being restricted by the base layer!
Using the Bitcoin stack to its fullest is how we eliminate the need for trust and bring sovereignty to mining.

Since launching in November, OCEAN has mined 28 blocks consisting of 175 newly generated coins and 9.29785518 BTC in transaction fees - a total of 184.29785518 BTC.
Those mining with OCEAN since launch are sitting at around 112% of the rewards they could expect from the well known alternatives.
Prior to OCEAN, almost all block rewards went to the same dozen addresses under the control of just a handful.
OCEAN added 33 more addresses to this as miners started choosing to get paid directly by the Bitcoin network in OCEAN blocks.

OCEAN. It’s been up and running for just over a week. Our miners are elated that we’re finding blocks ahead of schedule and they’re getting paid above market returns. We are on a path to decentralization. This is a big step forward in how mining pools operate in #Bitcoin.
Our transparency model is working and provoking important discussions. For the first time in years, Bitcoin miners can see in real-time the underlying candidate block that they are committing their hashrate to BEFORE they do the work.
Our non-custodial model is distinguishing us from incumbent pools, and government regulators are now further away from our miners’ coins than they are with custodial pools. Among other improvements, this upgrade fixes this long-standing vulnerability exploited by modern spammers. As a result, our blocks will now include many more real transactions and help to bring an end to the DoS attack being performed on the #Bitcoin network.
So, in addition to our already-established benefits (transparency, non-custodial, and permissionless), we now also offer honest miners the first easy option to contribute toward blocks full of real transactions, effectively a several times larger block size in terms of transaction confirmations, without actually making the blocks any larger.

Congratulations to our early miners! Our first block today was a huge reward and we’re happy for and grateful to the miners who have supported us. Everyone will be receiving about 5.48x what they would have received from FPPS pools.
A minor misconfiguration leftover from our pre-launch testing led to a block which did not directly reward our miners as intended. We have since paid out the miners manually.
The block template was created using the old v23 Bitcoin Knots rather than the latest version which is still completing testing (but should be ready soon). This unfortunately resulted in a large amount of spam being mined rather than real transactions. While this is only marginally better than other pools, we strive to hold ourselves to a higher standard and only do things that are good for Bitcoin. It is also vital to ensure we never mine invalid blocks, however, so we must fully validate the new version before upgrading to it. We had hoped to complete this before our first block, but for better or worse, we were "lucky" and found it much sooner than expected. Testing and safe deployment of the upgrade will proceed as soon as possible, without endangering Bitcoin or miner work.
We will continue to share updates as part of OCEAN’s commitment to transparency and our promise to be better for Bitcoin.

We found a block already.
The generation TX wasn't correct - all the btc will go where they're supposed to of course after ~100 block cooldown. Website confused/will be updated asap.
This is insanely lucky and all the early OCEAN adopters just made a fortune.

Another pool announced today that it has custody of an 83 BTC fee that it intends to give away. With OCEAN, those 83 BTC wouldn’t be in our custody—they’d already be in our miners’ wallets, paid directly by Bitcoin. The decision to refund should be up to the miners, not the pools
