Even Hamas claims that the deaths are 72% males aged 13 to 55. That's not killing woman and children indiscriminately. That's killing combatants.
Meanwhile hundreds of IDF soldiers have given their lives in the fighting since Oct 7th. Those men and woman simply wouldn't be dead if Israel was actually bombing Gaza indiscriminately. They died because Israel is trying it's best to only kill combatants. It's a miracle that so few civilians have died given that Hamas is quite happy to fight in the middle of them, even putting military forces in active hospitals.
The fact is, those deaths were a waste. Israel should have indiscriminately leveled Gaza from the air – as is their right – and not sent any soldiers into Gaza. There's nothing Israel can do to get people like you on their side, who are ultimately anti-Semitics who don't really think Israel deserves to live in peace and would rather support perpetual victims. Israel might as well get peace by force. In this case, it's not hard: Gazan society is such a mess they'll wipe out themselves given the chance.

The IDF owes them nothing at all. Hamas is the government of Gaza, and it clearly has significant support among the population, particularly the wealthier segment who – if they disagreed – could just leave Gaza. Hell, Hamas got voted into power with a clear majority between them and even more extremist parties.
Worse, Oct 7th was _not_ solely Hamas. Roughly half of the murders and kidnappings were by "ordinary" Gazans who just decided to join in. And again, we see that support in how – unlike WW2 – there's no examples of Gazans helping hostages escape.
The onus was on Gazans as a whole to stop this violence rather than support it. They chose the latter.
Germany paid huge sums for WW2 reparations, including wide scale confiscation of private property. Hopefully Russia will as well. And for that matter, Iran.
Does Ukraine owe Russians anything for the large amount of Russian property destroyed and Russian "civilians" killed in the course of defending themselves? Of course not. Israel is no different.

Why?
I did the math recently and a reasonable guess for the damages that Gaza owes Israel for Oct 7th is ~$30k/Gazan – tens of billions of dollars.
All of the real estate in Gaza is probably worth less than that: that works out to be $172/m².
It'd be perfectly reasonable for Israel to just take all of Gaza in compensation and kick everyone out. Sending them all to Libya would be a very reasonable way to do this.
The Gazan population clearly has an irrational hatred of Jews, they're extremely violent, and there is no path to fixing this problem. Trying peace and diplomacy got us Oct 7th.
A perfectly valid alternative to this would be to cut all aid to Gaza and just wait for the population to starve to death. No-one owes them free food or supplies, and they can't feed themselves. They fucked up their economy through violence – no one owes them anything to fix that.
Speaking of, you can solve a lot of problems that way: Yemen can rain missiles down on Israel and our shipping lanes in large part because western food aid is keeping 90% of their population alive. It's ridiculous that we're doing that.
Also, cutting off all this suicidal aid to people who hate us would free up money to send to Ukraine, a population actually fighting for us.

Good read.
One of the reasons why I haven't rushed to make Libre Relay easier to install, e.g. with binary releases, step-by-step docs, etc. is that it's just a one man proof-of-concept/experiment and people probably shouldn't be running it on a big scale.

The claimed cause is interesting: Induced Atmospheric Vibration.
Basically, if the conditions are just right, at the corona discharge threshold, the force of corona discharge leads to an oscillation with the corona discharge turning on and off. This in turn causes oscillations on overall power discharge (corona discharge can be a non-trivial amount of losses), triggering protection circuits and causing blackouts.
At least, that's the one description I could find.. but it sounds plausible.

One interesting detail: the assassination seems to have been done with an IED made of grenades planted in car they parked on the street outside his apartment, probably triggered remotely with a webcam. Accidentally orange-pilled a sticker vendor in Mexico. I only had 500 peso notes, and he didn't have change. So I had him install Wallet of Satoshi and sent him 100 pesos (~$5 USD) via Lightning.
He was actually pretty clueful. He seemed to understand that this was like digital gold. He also seemed to understand me when I explained how Bitcoin was a protocol – kinda like email – and that's why I was able to use different software to send him Bitcoin than Wallet of Satoshi. And he seemed to understand that since the amount was so small, Wallet of Satoshi was the one who actually had his Bitcoin, not him.
Second time I found someone who was willing to accept ₿, but normally didn't. First time was a t-shirt vendor who knew all about Bitcoin, but didn't himself have a wallet, and just got his friend to accept it for him.
Bitcoin is getting to the point where so many people know about it that you don't have to convince people its valuable. They already basically know what it is even if they've never personally used it.

The "peace" being proposed by Trump is a high-time preference surrender in disguise.
Ukraine has already been through this before, many times over. Russia proposes a "peace", regroups, and attacks again. Russia did the exact same thing with Chechnya in the 90's: Russia lost the first war, signed a peace treaty, and just spent the next three years rearming to attack again. This time winning.

Find an example of someone _not_ from El Salvador who was deported to El Salvador. I haven't actually found one yet – there's been claims. But they turn out to be El Salvadorans when their background is investigated more fully.
There probably will be the occasional mistake. But that isn't proving to be very common.

The US does not have a society threatening problem with rape; the US did have a (somewhat) society threatening problem with false rape allegations, and I've personally been a victim of that.
The UK on the other hand does have a society threatening problem with with Muslim rape gangs (mainly Pakistani). In _that_ case, yes, it absolutely would be justified to reduce standards of due process to get the Muslims perpetrating that crime out of the UK. Although equally, the UK doesn't actually need to reduce due process standards by much to solve the problem: court cases have established beyond a reasonable doubt that a remarkably high percentage of the Pakistani Muslim population are rapists.

Nope. The US has different due process standards for all kinds of different situations. This is a situation where the scale of the problem is so huge that due process standards simply have to be diminished.
All sane, non-suicidal, societies do this. That's why pretty much every country has a martial law mechanism. Indeed, I'm in Kyiv at the moment, and subject to martial law. One of the reasons why I can (relatively) safely be here is because normal standards of due process have been diminished.

The _lack_ of consequence is one reason why this is acceptable: in most of these removal cases the US is _not_ punishing the person being removed in any meaningful way. They're just being returned to where they came from.

You realize how _high_ that ratio is if taken literally: almost 10% of people found guilty will be innocent.
In practice, the west probably does more like 1% or 0.1%; El Salvador has released ~6% of those arrested. Though that figure also includes plea deals, and cases where people argued for clemency. And they're probably incorrectly releasing people who are in fact gang members too.
These kinds of numbers are easily justified when you take into account the fact that criminals repeatedly commit crimes. In the case of El Salvador, literally hundreds of lives per year are being saved, and an entire country is being transformed for the better.

Due process costs money, a lot of money.
El Salvador had to compromise on due process when they rounded up the gang members. When 1% of your population are murderous , violent, criminals who need to be locked up, there simply aren't enough judges or lawyers to give everyone full due process.
The West faces the exact same problem with illegals. We've allowed in literally tens of millions of violent, unproductive, people who need to be forced out, and fast. There aren't enough judges or lawyers on the planet to give every one of those people trials.
The compromise is some innocent people will be wronged. But overall it's the right compromise to make. Fighting violence and criminality at this scale is closer to fighting a war than it is a policing action.

Stoppable bombs for drones like this are actually quite a nice innovation. That plane can carry a ~100kg bomb, so the additional damage from the plane itself is insignificant. Also, a streamlined bomb can penetrate further into a building than an entire plane, doing a lot more damage for the same amount of explosives.
Meanwhile, there's usually weaker targets nearby – like electrical switchgear – that can be usefully damaged by a Cessna-scale plane without any explosives at all.
So dropping a bomb and then crashing the drone gets twice as many attacks for about the same cost.

This is the sort of drone that Ukraine is successfully using to attack Russian targets, in this case a fiber optic plant in Saransk, about 1000km from the border.
Basically a cheap Cessna-like small plane, built in Ukraine, fitted with a droppable bomb. This particular plane already dropped its bomb elsewhere, and was using the airframe itself to crash into the electrical switchgear outside the facility to destroy it. (Ukraine has actually developed automated bomb dropping software for its drones)
Russian anti-aircraft defense is in a sorry state... Ukraine could absolutely win this war by destroying more economic targets in Russia like this and crashing their economy. The main issue is the psychopathic "anti-war" "peaceniks" who care more about Russian "civilians" than Ukrainians.

Indeed. The Iron Dome saves lives in the short run. But it allows politicians to ignore the root causes of the problem – e.g. the fact that Hamas still exists – and punt the solution until later.
Israeli lives are still collectively lost too despite the Iron Dome: if the population of Tel Aviv, 500,000 people, hide in bunkers for 15 minutes collectively they've spent 14 years wasting their precious time on earth in bunkers. Just in terms of time lost, a few air alerts is equivalent to a human life.
...also, that math is exactly why so many people ignore air raids in Ukraine. The raids go on for much longer, and not enough people die per raid to be worth hiding.

Actually it would be fine! The creation of timestamp proofs is both very cheap, and scalable. The hashing of the data is done client side, so all that the servers have to do is build a merkle tree of all requests. That part scales well as we have aggregator software that can build different parts of the merkle tree on different servers.
At the moment demand is low enough that I only need a single aggregator per calendar. But if load increases we'll just spin up more.

One of the _very_ few places that actually enforce evacuation for air raids in Ukraine is some of the big malls (at least in safer cities like Kyiv and Odesa).
It's quite funny though being in one of the restaurants: the waiters quickly run around getting everyone to pay their bills first, and box up any remaining food and drinks to take away. Takes a good fifteen minutes to get everyone out. 😂 Of course, this has been a pretty much every day or two event for multiple years now.
I'm curious: how do they handle this in Israel? All the videos I've seen indicate they take the sirens much more seriously.
