I found that to be so amusing because nostr, Bitcoin and the lightning network are arguably "new school" since the technology is pretty fresh.

That's just how business has always been done and how it will continue to be done in the future. Reputation (tied to an npub in this case), reliability, and easy transactions. Nostr is primarily a reputation management tool in a business context.
