The Oak is nice as it splits reasonably and isn't prone to throwing creosote all over the chimney. Elm is a hateful wood to split though. And cherry...right in between.
Most of the trees I have are white pine, all rotting out too, making the house one big target. Only been hit once so far. Useless wood too aside from outdoor fires in the bowl.
